| Posted by: Herringbone @lexi Yes, Troja is the name and that’s the one. There’s no doubt Kai Kristiansen designed it, he is also mentioned in the text. I guess, IKEA didn’t produce but just retailed it. But I may be wrong. @herringbone. Yes it IS there in the text. My excuse for not seeing that is that I am, first and foremost,an "image" person As a radiographer this comes in quite handy !! As does the ability to chat; face to face (currently at a "safe " distance) "Small print"/text is not my forte. While you, on the other hand, have the journalist's foc ... | |||||

| Coincidentally, a set of these popped up in my area recently. I don't know that this confirms @herringbone suggestion that Ikea didn't produce these and simply retailed them, but they are (faintly) marked Made in Denmark. | @leif-ericson 🤣 You are absolutely right. I didn’t bother to look up the other pieces in the picture and also didn’t bother to think about whether a France & Daverkosen attribution makes sense. Doesn’t make sense at all for the reasons you wrote. And France never used paper cord to my knowledge. But how did Mobilia come up with such an attribution? (If they did) | |||||

| Good guess, @mark737, but I‘m afraid you are mistaken here. didn’t you imagine that one significant construction detail there in the top left corner that doesn‘t quite fit to your suggestion? Go think about it. | |||||

| Haha, I spent like 20 minutes to decipher the symbols on the first very small picture because it looked to me like Hebrew. I obviously don’t speak Hebrew but I checked the alphabet because I thought I‘d find the matching letters and could google it. I don’t have to tell you that for some miraculous reason it didn’t work out at all. 🤣 | |||||

| Wow--I replied to a link to this thread that i got via Email, which is the same email on my account here---and somehow I show up as "user-23"??! I (as user-23) logged out, logged back on as Spanky, and now user-23 is a separate entity. DA didn't even ask me for a password for that account. | |||||

| ... though maybe there were others. didn't we have another gal ? Or was that before this thread began. Hmm . . . Of course I skipped 80% of the pages. War, pandemic, crazy right-wingers. Let's smile through our tears. Maybe Mark will show up, magically, and others. What are you all up to ? I'll be 80 in November--how's that for a kicker ? Wow . . . | |||||

| ... catalogue where I found the Hong chairs ) I didn't crop the photo as I thought you might like to see the fabric choices available to customers ! Now to the Vamo stamp. I am posting two; the first is the one most people are familiar with. The 2nd one is hard to decipher but it looks like it says Wamo. Coincidently having checked out Facebook, like @mark737, found an interesting image from 1950. P. Villadsen's factory Wamo. As a bonus if you enlarge the image you can just about make out ,on the left hand side, a hoarding that reads Peter Villadsen. Umpteent ... | |||||

| @cdsilva I talked to PK before posting it here. He didn’t seem to be quite sure about the matter but said that as he understood it Søren Ove Nielsen was a contemporary cabinetmaker who made the pieces and consigned them to BR himself. But only to the Aarhus location why PK has never seen one in person. This may well be the case. I only wasn’t completely convinced for two reasons. Reason one: I‘d think that if Søren Ove Nielsen indeed was a contemporary cabinetmaker, you’d think you would be able to track him down on the internet or at least in phonebooks fro ... | |||||

| ... with stripper and a toothpick, wire brush, etc. Oxalic acid will take the water stains out, but I would tend to agree with minimoma, probably better to just leave it. Either way, once you put the first coat on, you should be able to sand out the roughness using 220-320 or higher grit (absolutely necessary if shellac, since the denatured alcohol raises the grain), prior to the next coat. Your comment about the wood still being rough due to being 'dry' makes no sense to me, and leads me to believe that you didn't sand correctly. Sanding is a fine art, s ... | |||||

| ... E.g. you see that the chairs are old and were not produced in recent years. Back then in the 60s-70s they didn't produce knockoffs, since it would be very expensive. If then it's something what can happen nowadays with modern production properties e.g. in China. So, all I wanna say is if you see that the chairs are old, it's most likely not a knockoff. Regarding the different stamps, they can vary from one to another production period. That's pretty common. | |||||

| @tktoo2 Yes, I cut them by hand. Some look better, some look worse but all in all I’m pretty happy with it. I think I had made five drawers before for several pieces in our home which I thought could use more, three of them have dove tail joinery, so I had a bit of practice. My only concern now is the box construction. I didn’t use particle board or anything but made it from solid wood. My hope is that the wood doesn’t move too much. | |||||

| @mark737. Maybe I didn't express myself well, I just wanted to compare the British MCM design with the Scandinavian one, and it's not difficult to make a judgment, which is not only subjective. Regarding the "MCM" design, mind you. For sure the Italian and German (Bauhaus) and Dutch MCM furniture design is just as great as the Scandinavian one, or for example the early 20th century US-American modern architecture design, just as great, no doubt, but if you are looking for genuine MCM design in UK or France ... nothing worth talking about (exceptions confirm ... | |||||

| Thank you Reamie! I would never have found that out without you.... it's like you need a degree in this kind of thing! I didn't pay that much for it as the seller didn't know who it was by, I think I paid around £400 a few years ago. I am moving house and won't have room for this so selling on Ebay if anyone is interested. Starting price £200, so bargain. Just search under Ølholm Møbelfabrik and it should pop up, for any dealers out there. It is A1 condition and no scratches or marks. Delivery only within UK though unfortunately. | |||||
