The colour makes me think these were not originally upholstered. One or two have some scratches but will pull out all precious staples and nails and gently sand them and oil them.
any idea if anyone has seen these before. The legs detail at the top looks similar to nicer chairs, how it appears the seat somewhat floats.
any idea of maker? What kind of wood the cross section is any maybe any suggestions for refinishing would be appreciated!
@johnq ;@cdsilva. Random find this morning; thought you might be interested. The chairs are by Fratelli Reguitti. It would seem like there was some variation with back rest shape; different years ? Sellers vary fron 50's for the rectangular shaped back to 60's for the more oval shape. Anyways there are a few marked examples if you go searching.
No catalogue images or other referances at this time that I can add !! Just an image of makers mark.

@lexi you should have a counter in your profile for how many (difficult) IDs you have done... @cdsilva nice catch with the table, somehow I though that when there is a stamp like that "made in denmark" is usually something of low quality from late 60es on...
there is a reference in the "museo della sedia" . looks like this model was called "western germany".
Sometimes you find places were they are labelled as designed by "Joe Ponti", but hard to say from where this attribuition comes from.
on the internet you'll find they came in a combination of leather, or fabric upholstery. Sometimes both the backrest and seat upholstered, sometimes only the seat. But I agree, that the upholstery you removed looked like a self-made job...
@andersen. This is why I enjoy trying to ID furniture. This thread is nearly 4 months old and after an initial image search filed it somewhere in my brain.( 6 months or more and I cannot depend on that memory file! ). Was actually searching for info on an Axel Larsson chair and must have clicked on some image and there was the OP's chair...nothing to do with Axel. The vagaries of the interweb never fail to surprise me.
No idea who designed it..Gio, Ico, da Frutti; take your pick.
I think the link you provided possibly means it was licenced for production in Germany and they applied for a patent to protect the design?

On a side note. According to a poster on IG, the card table above is designed by *Carlo Hauner and manufactured by Fratelli Reguitti.
Maybe @leif-ericson has some idea about the designer for the chairs, as I can remember him having a lovely card table on which he did a lot of research 😉 and perhaps the OP's chairs popped up in that ?
( * usually misattributed to Gio Ponti)

I don’t know anything about the chairs unfortunately but obviously Carlo Hauner is a possibility. And if the chairs routinely turn up with the Hauner card table that would be suggestive they are a vintage pairing. Many people are thoroughly shocked to learn the table is not Gio Ponti because his foundation has apparently claimed the table and falsely. It also falsely claimed for him a strange folding chair / bed designed by Ejvind Johansson for Ivan Schlechter, so apparently mistakes are made there.
