| This is just another step in the history of furniture in the US. First was furniture handmade local to the region it was sold in. Thus 18th and early 19th century with distinct local characteristics (e.g. Newport, Connecticut, New York, Philadelphia are distinct and easily recognized). Even specific well-known makers (e.g. Seymour) can be identified, who left distinctive decorative touches on their handmade pieces. With factory production starting in the mid 19th century came big factories turning out identical products that were shipped all over the US, thu ... | |||||
| I have a chest of drawers | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | Sagewitannie | General discussion | |
| I have a chest of drawers with a Mahogany Association label stating that it is #560. Unfortunately, I do not know the origins of this chest as I purchased it YEARS ago at a yard sale in the East Texas area. The chest has been painted a God awful yellow color (I didn't do it!!) and is in need of some serious TLC. I have been using it as a "catch-all" cabinet in an obscure corner of a utility room. Have always wondered about the Mahogany Assoc. label inside the top drawer. Have considered selling it a couple of times at yard sales...but for some reason, I can ... | |||||

| Thanks for the nice comments, tips, hints and knowledge guys ! I also think it was a great find. I only thought it was a rare early one, but I didn't knew for sure, but I am thankful that my thought has obtained sureness through your nice replies! I think I'll have tol buy the Neuhart book(s) on Eames design, cause they look like the sort of things from where I can obtain a lotta knowledge about specific Eames productions in detail. Have some of you Eamesheads read these? | |||||

| Okay, I understand. I just have other Drexel furniture which probably falls under this description more closely as it's mid century modern and thought that since they were the same maker, just different design, someone might have an idea or advice. I just didn't want to be one of those people who prices things like you see on Ebay with no education, but I could easily inflate the price to match what I see on Ebay though. I honestly wasn't looking for an appraisal, just trying to be educated online as there is little information. | |||||

In almost a decade, that daybed was a huge success.I'm also trying to find some relatives of Johannes Andersen but so far without any success. There is very little information about Johannes Andersen so if you have any information, then please let me know. I know that he also designed furniture for Uldum and Silkeborg Furniture and according to google he later started his own factory in Farum (north of Copenhagen) but this might be inc ...

The petrified foam could have been scraped from the original covers, and the old fabric could then have been used as a template to cut new fabric, but cutting the complex curves in replacement foam would have been very difficult. 3. The foam in the new covers couldn't be reused because it's impossible to cleanly delaminate the fabric from the foam and then re-laminate new fabric to ...

I definitely wouldn't have the patience. I'll get back asap with some photos. As for the covers authenticity. I was told some covers on bertioa chairs didn't sew the label on to the cover. Depending on the fabric...some where sewn into the bottom of the pad and others where only attached using adhesive. This goes from the early models up until recently when knoll was ...

| Thanks for the comment and lack of snark. Was surprised by how much there was. I didn't think I posted to Reddit... I was thinking the same thing. I love the chairs. May keep them for a while, but if I can turn a profit, I'll try that too. Trying to acquire some fun pieces, trade up and enjoy this passion/hobby. Appreciate your thoughts, Toomanychairs. I'm in the same boat (now with four more!). D | |||||

| Close but no cigar. I was using the web auction and the bid went through at a price much higher than I was willing to/planning on paying. I am familiar with his designs and many of the other pieces/lines but this one didn't have as much history/background/data or sales activity to go on. I do love the set. It's gorgeous but I got screwed by the web site and was exploring my options... Thanks for the help though. Much obliged... | |||||

| Rare? There are seven listings on 1stDibs at the moment. The one I clicked on had a 20" square marble top, presumed to be original. I didn't open any of the other listings to check dimensions but it's easy enough to do. eta: sorry, missed the part about the thickness and radius of the rounded corners. The thickness looks like the same as the cross piece in the center of the legs. I would figure the radius of the corners by drawing it on paper and comparing. Actually, I'd put a round top on it if that is correct--one of them had a round top on the site ... | |||||

| picked up yesterday of the 'list. It's an odd set of Cado as the supports are black metal and spring loaded. A little beat but should clean up o.k. Didn't think I was going to keep them. But started talking with the Mrs. and she convinced me that we needed to put it in the Den, which is a cluttered mess (it's our crash room and we have a young son). I think it's a good idea but: - We will need to move the 2 shelves that are in there (probably to boy's room, causing a total rework there as well). - We will need to get a new couch (not a tragedy, have been thinking that for a while) - Need to move the wall mounted T.V. (hey, I put it up, how hard is that?) - MIGHT have to paint. TBD - Might have to get our Bearded Dragon a new aquarium as hers is too big for where we would need to put it. Gives me a bit of a headache just thinking about it but I think the results will be worth it. Attached is the original photo, in situ. When it's up I'll post a few other pics. | |||||

| I'm pleased that I could help, and I hope you enjoy your new Bird chair. Coincidentally, I threw away two Bird covers last week. One was my vintage chair's original cover and its foam had completely deteriorated, so I didn't feel too bad about discarding it, but the other one was only a few years old (and expensive -- Knoll Velvet). Unfortunately, that cover was marred by a big bleach stain. I'd had it in storage for the last couple years, but the stain really couldn't be covered or corrected, so there was no point keeping it any longer. Sigh. Anyway, t ... | |||||
