Hello everyone

I recently picked up two Møller 75 frames from a fleamarket. I have purchased the danish cord and the danish furniture nails and am ready to try my hand at restringing them. However, the chairs came completely stripped, no cord, no nails, which means, I have no idea about the necessary number and placement/measurements for the nails. It looks like someone else has tried to restore them before and now there's just too many holes to be sure which ones are correct.

So far, I have been unable to find a template or any kind of information for the placement of the nails online. Best information I found so far is that on the front and back rail, you're supposed do have an uneven number of nails, usually either 17 or 19. No idea on distancing, or on the number of nails on the side rails.

Could anyone provide me with a template for the nail placement? Or alternatively with a good picture of the side and front/back rails of a properly strung chair, or a stripped chair with all the nails in, so I can try and extrapolate from that.

I'd really rather not go through all the weaving work to find out at the end that I'm off a couple of nails. Any help is appreciated!

@designroadshow,

You're welcome.

Mr. Penrose ("tchp") was a regular here on the forum years ago. I found the link to his blog among the archived posts where there are many about weaving paper cord if you enter search terms like 'weaving Danish cord' or such in the unmarked search bar above.

Bon chance!

@designroadshow, I have a pair of teak 75s that have 17 nails along the front/rear rails, and 24 along the sides.

When you have to do more than 2, it's worth making a template!

I also found that towards the front and the back of the chairs on the lateral weave, having nails placed further into the corners is useful for a weave that isn't 'leaning' away from the stile or the front legs.

You can see this in Skylar's second photo on the right side, the weave has had to angle out to reach the stile, and there's had to be, by the looks of it 3 wraps on that last nail.

I am sure they have a jig for it at the factory and Skylar's look original, but if you're having to drill holes anyway I think it's worth mentioning.

Kind regards,

Kyle
