Good morning! I just got a J39 chair at a local auction in a somewhat surprising red stain. The whole frame is stained but the chair itself is the standard beech and paper cord. I was planning on stripping the chair to go with a set of 4 J39 chairs I have. If anyone has a standard finished J39 they want to part with, I'd be thrilled. Assuming that's not the case, I was wondering:

1) Is it a bad idea to strip what seems to be an original finish, period?

2) Is there a way to strip the stain without destroying the finish? I would imagine no.

3) Does anyone know much about what kind of finish the J39 beech chairs normally had? If I do strip the frame, I'd like to get as close to the original finish as possible.

Thanks for looking/ your time!

Don’t do it. Beech soaks up stains irregularly and some areas will be red very deeply.

Thank you both-- I think I'll leave it as-is and see if I can find a buyer. I appreciate your help!
