Tips for writing an essay (AMK level)
Lahti University of Applied Sciences is offering free study skills nights this autumn. Once again, there will be an essay writing skills evening, How to write a good essay.
During the Swedish online course (Aktuellt i affärsvärlden), no less than three essays will be written. Writing an essay is something I am familiar with from my high school days. However, it is good to sharpen your memory sometimes. My Swedish teacher  had shared some good tips for write my essay. I would now like to share those tips with you. If you have problems writing an essay or if you want to write a good, if not perfect, essay, take these tips to heart:
What is an essay?
First, briefly, the concept of an essay: an essay is a personal, well-argued (=argued) piece of writing. It is a reflection on a topic chosen from one or more articles/works. The author also compares and evaluates the material found in the sources. It is also important to develop new ideas and arguments, and not just to rely on the material. Remember to think for yourself!
And what makes a good essay?
Writing an essay requires careful groundwork: looking at the sources, developing your own views and supporting arguments, and exploring alternative positions. A good essay also has a good understanding of the concepts, a smooth flow and a logical structure.
Essay structure
The introduction introduces the topic/problem/question. Briefly gives the background to the topic being discussed, introducing the point of view. The reader should be clear what you intend to address, in what order and from what perspective.The actual reading section is the stage where the most use is made of the source material. However, you should not refer to what you have read, but seek to engage in a dialogue between the positions expressed in the source material and your own reflections. Develop your own ideas in a raw form, drawing on your own observations and experiences.The concluding section summarises/summarises the main ideas and conclusions on the topic of the rhetorical analysis essay help. This is a good time to express your own views on the topic.These Swedish essays have a page limit of 2 pages (i.e. about 800 words). The length of the essay can, of course, vary from one page to fifty.
