What do we have here? Mystery Italian (?) chair

I was over at a friend's house today and they have this chair in their bedroom. It looks vaguely familiar, but I can't place it specifically. It definitely has an Italian look about it to me, but that's just my hunch. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for the quick answer. The chair is a lot more comfortable than it looks.
My friends are considering having it re-upholstered as it has a few rips etc. I'm guessing this would be pretty expensive as it seems to me that it would have to be done by hand no?
