| They are definitely NOT the Folke Pälsson chairs. What they do resemble is Poul Volther's model J46 for FDB. However they are not that either. The most obvious difference is the shape of the top rail. I don't know if the Farstrup attribution is correct, but seeing as it doesn't add a lot of dollar value, I would be willing to give it some benefit of the doubt. I think I might also have seen these or similar described as by Billund. | |||||

| A coat of polyurethane would not necessarily mean a lot (it could be later production, or refinishing). And I have seen the occasional 1/2" knot in era teak pieces. Again a photo of one of the seams in between the boards in the top might reveal a lot. (There are difference in the way that it would have likely been done in a production environment in the 50s-60s vs as a custom replacement later). Another thing to look at would be whether the top was attached to the frame in the proper fashion for a wood top (to allow wood movement). If you take photos, I w ... | |||||

| Thanks woody, I also saw a couple of these posts during my research. These links look exactly how the bottoms of mine look, with the 4 Screws, 2 holes, and the felt bumpers. Only difference is how the "sweden" is marked. Also, the first post of yours above looks to have the exact same taper on the edge as the ones that I have. The foot stools also look to have the tapered edge, but that is just a guess since they are covered. I will look into the "Scandicrafts" connection a bit more, maybe there is a connection to Artek's Swedish mfg. Objectworship, I don' ... | |||||

| I am not sure I understand you comment. I pulled those photos from a pretty reliable source for Danish Modern: the danish furniture index: https://aleph-01.kb.dk/F/978IG6PTLKGBFRATG2JU3HBAYU5651EA3N356B7X8M715RB... So, those photos are definitely of the ditzel designed, Wengler made chair. And I doubt that the production changed that much, as the physical connection to the hanging chair would be very integral to the design and structure. In other words that "little" difference is actually an enormous difference signifying a completely different structure ... | |||||
| Hi ScottB, | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | racecar | General discussion | |
| Hi ScottB, In my experience a soft pad lounge chair has the mounting holes for the base in different spots than the desk chairs. Between desk chairs, there is also a difference between herman miller and ICF versions. If the frames look to be the same otherwise, you can probably swap the upholstery. I briefly considered doing this, but it became clear that without the right tools, or doing it before, it was going to be really time consuming, so rather than destroy a decent chair, I moved onto something else and gave up. (and normally I'd tackle projects like ... | |||||

| I am almost positive this is an original set. Really the only difference is the doors on the bottom the top of the bottom piece and the sides are the same wood on both pieces, the hardware is the same, the backs are finished the same, and they have the same hand written notes on top and bottom. | |||||

| Very interesting thread. Just to add, I had a pair of CH-29's a while back that also had the Larsen stickers to the underside. I assumed it was a retailers tags at the time. I have also noticed some very slight discrepancy's with the dimensions of some vintage CH-29's. Some have slightly thicker legs than others, it is barely noticeable. The difference in manufacturer perhaps? | |||||

| Authentic Saarinen tulip tables never have screw holes---a quick and easy way to determine the difference. That's not to say that all knock-offs have screw holes, though. But if you see screw holes, you know it's a knock-off. | |||||

| It says A Rodrigues 16-12-68. Alternatively it might be Rodriguez with a z. With an "s" at the end it is generally the Portuguese spelling, and with a z it is generally Spanish. However, in New World Spanish there is no difference between the the sounds "s" and "z" so the spelling tends to be very flexible. | |||||

| Thanks, fast fwd. The illustration suggests that the difference between a parabola and a hyperbola is that the former is generated by a plane passing through (and beyond) the principal axis of the cone. Is that your understanding of the definition of a parabola -- or am I misreading ? Is it the case that the same figures shown here can also be generated -- all of them -- by intersecting a cylinder in the same manner as shown here ? Mathematical explanations will be lost on me, I'm afraid; I can only respond to the visual evidence and draw conclusions from t ... | |||||

| Thanks cdsilva! This is great information. Do you think it makes a difference that the design/shape on the top of the arm rest is different than the one I have? Also, do you know where I might find an "original " print of this image? Thanks! | |||||

| I think either of those two Star-brite products are fine. I've used both and frankly I can't tell the difference. Check Ace Hardware if you have one nearby--their prices are way better than other sources, around here anyway, and no shipping. Staceyneil, I got all excited about lemon oil a few years ago but then found it was just too light an oil to last long. Everything looked really great for a couple of weeks, but then it started looking kind of dry and had to be oiled again. Or maybe it doesn't oxidize the same way teak oil does? You are right on hte "Spottrup" notice, I also thought it was a producer name, thank you for the information. I must admit I had never heard about "Hugo Frandsen", now I will dig a little bit. 1000 thanks again for your kind help Leif. | |||||

| Aha -- and, aha. Yes, I've seen the tiny-upside-down-images-on-the-sidewalk, too. Don't remember under what circumstance. Eameshead, I believe I did read an explanation somewhere that explained the moon-disc thing as you have: the contrast between bright and black is so great that the difference in brightness on different parts of the bright object are minimized to the point of invisibility. I must have missed the lunar eclipse; I saw only photos of a burnt-orange (?) disc. I do see the globe of the moon, or seem to, when a partial moon is lighted by ear ... | |||||

| Cdsilva, the gray chair in my previous post (#2 of the three) is Modernica. The difference that jumps out at me is the shape of the arm---thicker and more club-like than on the real chair. It looks rather crude now that I've really noticed it. The radius of the curve where armrest meets wing is also much bigger. And the leg taper! That is way off. The chartreuse chair is a cheap Chinese knockoff and are is also way off but in a different way---and it's also just one of many really obvious differences, obviously! Here is an old AP Stolen Papa Bear with ... | |||||
