| I am SO tired of trying to find a decent alarm clock. | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| My nice simple alarm clock that I've had for years died recently and I am slowly descending into madness in my search for a replacement. Please some one tell me there is a clean-lined, simple, powered alarm clock with an off-button larger than a virus out there somewhere. I just want a simple alarm clock that is an alarm clock, not a NASA space station control panel. I just want it to wake me up with a plain old annoying beep. I don't want radios, phones, colored lights, pseudo-sunrises, or projection onto my ceiling. And finally, I don't want to take out a ... | |||||

| Oh heaven above, I've recently returned from spending frigid holiday time at the Greenbrier. My twice daily sartorial choices were only socially acceptable within the resort proper. Drank, dined, and took a cooking class with the hotel decorator. Then Debbie Reynolds died. Probably a smoker. Oh heavens above, Aunt Mark ps yes...West Virginia, near where Deliverance was filmed... and possibly Debbie Reynolds was birthed*. There's also a (sorta) secret man cave next to the hotel that has a place for Republicans to brush their vintage tooth during a bomb d ... | |||||

| Yes. Jesus Christ, SDR, that's fabulous! I figure that the only way to make that situation any more twisted would involve a clown costume on either mom (wife), or your host, and they spoke a foreign language. Probably smoker's. You saw his organ upstairs? Fierce! Yes, Aunt Mark ps. she went to prison for killing her soon to be dead husband who died of death. He is still dead. She was a very sweet girl. | |||||

| On closer look, your yellow lamp passes with flying colors. And the crystal curiosity is way expensive, I lately notice. So, problem solved. Maybe someone will donate it to the mineralogy department at the Smithsonian . . . I like your pants more than my socks. The cap is from the tiny kitchen/tabletop woodenware company I worked for at the time. Sausalito plant, company accounts in Mill Valley. Jeff Bartelt died suddenly in 1984. He liked the "cattle crossing" highway sign so it became the company logo. | |||||

Their flat was full of interresting items (a set of ant chairs, a few eames chairs, a Fabricius for Kill Int. living room set, lots of vintage italian designs, etc.) and creations of her late husband (including a scale model of a car design he offered to Peugeot in the 1960s). I had a fantastic time there, met a wonderful lady and... will have the priority when she will decide to sell her furniture 😉

| DallasGraduate, The best statement I ever heard regarding a budget was a well known televangelist quote "you do not have a money problem you have an idea problem". This televangelist faith*, mission and other agendas (Philip Johnson designed Crystal Cathedral) had no bearing positive message and upbeat outlook. *It did not end well... the ministry went bankrupt, the minister died and the "garage style church, boldly shaped structure that risk denaturing modern places for Catholic worship" was sold to the diocese of Orange (not Philip Johnson fans). | |||||
| In 1968, danish furniture | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | leif ericson - Zephyr Renner | General discussion | |
| In 1968, danish furniture sales were no longer growing at an enormous rate. Just Lunning had died in 1965, and the new director Jørgen Jenk decided on an initiative to get into the contract furniture market. As part of this he signed Hans Wegner’s Salesco organization to an exclusive distribution deal. It was very short lived, because it resulted in furniture that was 3x-4x more expensive in the USA than Denmark. Interior designers tried to get around the exclusive by buying direct from Denmark. Three months later, the Lunning heirs were forced to sell ... | |||||

| In 1937, Anders Hostrup-Pedersen, who was the son of one of the owners of the various Georg Jensen companies (P.A. Pedersen who died in 1937), became the director of Georg Jensens Sølvsmedie. So he was very much part of this mail order evasion. The lawsuit was not settled until 1940, and it was his family’s business going back to at least the 1920s. He was a life-long personal friend of Finn Juhl. Ultimately Finn Juhl would become Georg Jensen’s official architect, designing and re-designing the Georg Jensen stores around the world, including, of course, ... | |||||

Wright could make a post-war "rambler" that was over a hundred feet from one end to the other; Detroit maxed out the practical horizontal limits of the car body in the early 'sixties -- not long after Wright died. I'm not as conversant with man's cultural history as I could be, but it seems likely that other fads have accosted "modern man" from time to time, through the centuries. The motor vehicle vies with electricity and the railroad as the most significant technologic ...

| Thanks for your reply Lief. Yes I have heard this too that Thayer Coggin had an exclusive relationship with Milo Baughman from the mid 50's until he died. Trust me I am as skeptical of Baughman attributions as anyone. I guess I was wondering if it was possible that the Broyhill scoop chairs and this egg chair could have been in the mid-50's when Baughman was "designing around", but I don't think that can be because Thayer Coggin attributes this design as like 1967. The one attribution that really hangs me up though is the directional line attributed to Mi ... | |||||
