| RE: Florence Knoll lounge seating - real deal? | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | LeClan | Identification | |
| Thanks for your feedback tktoo2. I'm not sure what the handwriting is on the sticker. I've attached a close up - it basically shows from top to bottom: 7/10/8 I didn't reach out to Knoll yet - wasn't sure if this was something they would look into. I can give it a shot. | @mark737 Hi Mark, Teufel is a very cool name in my opinion, and there are not so few people in Germany with that name. Erwin Teufel is one. I first thought of Fritz Teufel. But I didn't realise that they all come from southern Germany. I wonder if the people there used to be so vicious that they deserved the name? I also wonder if the name is also common in the US. Have you ever heard someone say "Hi, my name is Peter Devil" and not mean Peter "Devil"? And another question: How is your German? Viele Grüße | |||||

| @mark737. Yes time is passing very quickly ! That is a strange "beast" indeed. If memory serves, I recall seeing one or two Magic Boxes with that same cross piece between the feet. didn't save images tho as none were marked. | |||||

| RE: curved sofa identification | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | mark737 | Identification | |
| The sofa you posted was sold by MetroRetro of Houston and listed on 1stDibs and their website as "Harvey Probber style". Probably because of the similarities to this sofa in the first picture, which is listed by many sellers as a Probber design, though I didn't see any tags or catalog photos to confirm. Edward Wormley designed a similar sofa for Dunbar in the 50's, the model 4906A shown in second photo below. Many Italian designers of the 50's had similar curved sofas as well. My guess would be the white sofa was a custom design or made by a small-scale ... | |||||

| ... or UK, though maybe Australia. I'd never heard of Fritz Teufel but just went and read the Wikipedia page on him - quite a different path from old uncle Erwin. I didn't learn much German when we lived there, going to American school and socializing mostly with other Amis. I did study it for two years in college, with classes five days a week taught by native German instructors, in which we spoke nothing but German. I was semi-fluent after that, but alas, that was more than a few years ago. Aber mit hilfe von zwei oder drei bier beginnt es wieder zu k ... | |||||
| Spindle Back Armchairs | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | mark737 | Identification | |
| Picked up a couple of these chairs in a darker stain. Wood appears to be beech. Person I got them from said they came from England but didn't know anything more. I've only found this one example online and it's from a dead link to a website about Finnish design, most likely because of the Marimekko Frekvenssi upholstery. Second picture shows underside of one of mine. Any ideas? Note: Changed thread title since these are not Windsor style chairs Attachment: Win6.jpg Attachment: Win7.jpg | |||||

| I thought user 171 was going to say something useful, but instead it seems his post was intended as an ad? What he could have said but didn’t, is that your chairs are by definition not Windsor chairs, because they lack a solid plank seat. The Windsor was reinterpreted in the mid 20th century by some well known designers, Wegner Peacock as one example. Which is a long winded way to say sorry, but I don’t recognize your (non-Windsor) chair. Maybe searching without “Windsor” could help find it? | |||||

| Thank's, @leif-ericson, that's what I'm getting at, there is a possibility that they are two different people. @kyle-barrett wrote: "And as someone who's posted here reliably over the years I think for most of us, we didn't feel the need to question Oliver." Dear Kyle, it's always a risk of believing someone unchecked, just because he has posted a lot of correct information before. Everyone can be mistaken. | |||||

| @kyle-barrett The name Kjaerulff Rasmussen is far more common than the name Kjaernulf. Usually, if you find more than 50 people with the name, which is the case with Kjaerulff Rasmussen I think, the chance is pretty low that you find a relative by just trying. I reached out to some, but with no luck. It's certainly different with Kjaernulf. I know that Henry had a son and a daughter. At least his daughter is still alive, I tried to contact her in several ways but she didn't get back. | |||||

| I understand the knee-jerk skepticism to reading something on the internet. But I'd suggest whoever you feel the onus should be on to provide sources, that in this instance it's not the case. I agree with Leif in that if you feel something is false you should reach out and discuss it. As with most investigative journalism/research (if I may call it that) sources tend not to be forms of definitive documentation and rather a cross examination of known facts against accounts from individuals. It's down to the accuracy of those accounts and the verification of t ... | |||||

| ... The question must be allowed, if Henry "Kjærulff" Rasmussen and Henning Kjærnulf really are the same person, to change his first name from Henry to Henning, okay, but why to change his family name from Kjærulff to Kjærnulf, that is curious. And the question remains why he's not listed as famous designer in the Ubberud and Odense archives. And what means this? http://www.artnet.de/k%C3%BCnstler/richard-jensen-and-kjaerulff-rasmussen/ https://www.mutualart.com/Artist/Richard-Jensen-and-Kjaerulff-Rasmussen/99B8E1106BC2969B He probably isn't mentioned b ... | |||||

| Dear Kyle, I didn't describe Herringbone's research as irrelevant, but rather Kjaernulf's design, his designs are irrelevant for design history. | |||||
