| Thanks for all of your splendid suggestions... Thought it'd be ages before I got a reply. You've given me some options with regards to both chairs. Hehhehheh. I came across an ad on eBay for a "repair kit" for the danish chair (Item#: 160295567567). He made a mistake when he referenced the material "Elasbelt". I looked it up, and they sell this stuff for 79 cents a foot and $1.69 for ten hooks. He's selling a kit of 12 feet and 12 hooks for $50.00. Glad I didn't buy it! 🙂 Keep your wits about you, folks! Thanks alot for all your suggestions! Chris C. | |||||

There were only a handful of pieces on display: 1 Grasshopper chair without the ottoman in solid blue hopsack fabric and the plywood is the dark (walnut, I think) 1 large marble Tulip conference or dining table that is not real old 1 Tulip side chair in black 1 Tulip armchair in white with the standard red hopsack cushion (looks new 'cause the base is glossy) 1 Organic chair with the wood legs 1 Womb chair and ottoman with the most standard, boring oatmeal fabric 1 high back Organic longue chair with the wood legs 1 leathe ...

| ... says, "that Wright chair is a beautiful design." Its means it is a lousy chair to sit in that looks good. Or some building that has exceedingly pleasing Bauhaus form language, but is a bitch to put up with and maintain. I do not like design to be talked of in this way, certainly not in the nascent stages of a functional revival. Let's move on, shall we. Regarding Blade Runner, though, I don't have any trouble sitting through it. It works well enough for me. But don't make me watch it, while sitting in most of Wright's chairs. The old functionalist just didn ... | |||||

| ... piece of furniture no one can help liking. Heaven's Gate is a third that in the end vascillated between the incomprehensible and the too on the nose boring. It is like that huge, ghastly Victorian vanity that some hack added some camel humps to and no one can make any sense of at all. Blade Runner is just too freaking visually cool not to like and the idea of a gum shoe bagging a sexy robot in the sack is just too titillating not to watch (thanks to that hauntingly beautiful but loony actress that played her). She is the equivalent male joke to the female j ... | |||||

| ... with a Klippan sofa. My daughter bought one for her first apartment. After a couple of years she wanted a new look for it so I offered to reupholster it (thinking that would be easier than attempting to copy their slipcover in the fabric she wanted). It was made in such a way that I had to disassemble it to re-cover some of the parts. The construction was appallingly bad. The arms were boxes made of oriented strand board or flake board or something, and some of the screws were driven in so far that they went through the board. Other screws were added ne ... | |||||

If indeed the clock hands were owned by Howard Miller, then I wonder why when the arrangement ended, clocks having Nelson hands were sold with the standard antique Howard Miller hands. Since I don't yet have the book you refer to (the Vitra exhibition book??) I'm surprised that Umanoff wasn't involved with George Nelson. His designs certainly are a continuation of the Nelson style and his stuff is often refered to as being connected with Nelson. Nothing lasts forever, but It's still weird about 1) why Howard Miller is so weird about ...

I live on Martha's Vineyard and got mine from an elderly lady I did some work for... for $160.00 (that's what she owed me for working on a couple of her other ones). Some of the cushions are in bad shape (but can be refurbished for about 400 by a local upholsterer); but the wood is in pretty good shape. The shockmounts are gone, of course, but I've gotten replacements for them already. I don't know ...

| Thread size counts. To fasten things on my boat, I didn't even consider that there might be inserts and I doubt there are. Where I might use a #8 screw in wood, I use a 1/4" SS Lag bolt. Most of my fittings are galvanized and I wanted to use galvanized bolts (lag screws) to match but the threads were partly plugged with galvanizing compound causing the hole to strip out if used. Bow eye is a long heavy eye bolt with a large galvanized eye nut on the inside. Stern eyes are through bolted, again with eye nuts giving lots of tie down points. Cleats at the bow a ... | |||||
