| Sure. In fact if the backrest are Afrormosia that would suggest Norway a bit more, as the use of Afrormosia as a primary wood was more common in Norwegian pieces. I think it is possible the seats have been replaced as well, because the diamond weave done in seagrass is not very common. Søborg Møbelfabrik and Karl Andersson are the only makers I can think of who combined those two variables. The use of paper cord and/or a basket weave is much more common. | |||||

| Very very interesting find! I've seen sketches that Harry made of just this fixture: the small diamond chair rim bender. BTW, as dick Schultz will gladly confirm, there were three people assigned to work with Harry to get the collection into production: dick Schultz came in 51 and was joined by Don Pettit and Bob Savage in '52. Good find! | |||||
| Mini, today, a CNC waterjet | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | tktoo | General discussion | |
| Mini, today, a CNC waterjet would be the choice of machinery. Back then, a large, specialized band saw with a water-cooled carbide or diamond grit blade would likely have been used to cut curves in thick plate glass. FWIW, I find the table simply stunning. The base by itself, not so much. But, oh, that top! YOWZA! | |||||

| Further validation of the provenance of these arm chairs: I spotted two of them on Mad Men last night (S7 E11). Of course, we can't get a look at the underside to see about the manufacturer's mark. I think jkome is probably right about Gaylord Brothers, but we have yet to get proof that this diamond mark is theirs. Anyway, enjoy the luscious colors in this screen shot. You can see the pair of Risom chairs back to back in the center of the shot. | |||||

| Poked around a bit more and it would appear that Jens Risom Design or Design Control worked closely with Gaylord Brothers (Syracuse, NY) in creating library furniture. In browsing through some Gaylord Bros. stuff, I really didn't see anything that looked close to what our chairs looked like but there was definitely a collaboration between the companies and Risom was the "designer" for the furniture pieces. The "Informa Group" was listed but I couldn't find any pics of chairs...mostly circulation desks. I emailed the Gaylord company to see if they could co ... | |||||

| Good approach, Dod. Sometimes, it's best to just not know. Like the time a colleague asked me to put her shiny new surprise diamond engagement ring under my microscope, for instance. But, if it ever gets to the point where your curiosity won't be denied, you could always disassemble it, take a photo of where the shaft attaches to the top, and send it off to Knoll for confirmation. | |||||

| Just bought two of these chairs at Goodwill for $9 each. Love them but that crazy CB/GB diamond trademark has me stumped. Don't suppose there are any new thoughts on what that trademark stands for.? The only thing close looked like maybe "Conant-Ball" but their furniture tag wasn't close. Hmmm... | |||||

| Not sure if I'm a fan of a rug in this situation at all. But I'm with Spanky here. That darker one just feels like it would weigh the room down. Too many brown and rust tones that are already present with the lounge chair and LCW. The other one in the room opens it up a bit more. Little more color play and vibrance. I also like how the diamond pattern mirrors and plays off the pillow you have on the sofa. | |||||

| An interesting issue for sure. I drove past a Bertoia diamond chair on a porch in a rough neighborhood for weeks before I passed when the owner was outside. I approached asked if she'd be interested in selling it. She said informed me they were her patio chairs, that she had two more inside, and would now be moving this one inside so I didn't steal it. It has since been replaced by a cheap plastic patio chair, and I assume has joined the other two inside. Waiting for the estate sale.... | |||||

It seems that these chairs are not generally collectible enough to necessarily always preserve them in their original state? | gift from the gals at the resale store Mark, The gift from the gals at the resale store playing cards is fabulous. I found and acquired a vintage boxed set of Haynes Inc. Yellowstone National Park Wyoming playing cards. This should be right up your alley, all vintage playing cards are stored in a drawer LV shoe box. You may appreciate the Visionaire 21 A diamond is Forever and MAC Cosmetics (Assouline) Deck of Cards contemporary sets. They are functional and well executed. Once again, you received a very nice gift. | |||||
