| There is something fascinatingly different.... about the purpose of using a similar minimalist form language in both the Braun and iPod. Ram's Braun radio was a fantastically simple device. It was a radio with a dial that when spun allowed you to pick up a bunch of radio stations. It was a miniaturization of the radio to make it portable, which was itself a simple device to use that all persons in western society were long familiar with. The function of the iPod was similarly single purpose (listening to recorded sound), and it was a miniaturization of all s ... | |||||

From a visual point of view I like the fact that the unusual reduction from the generic round shape to a square "re-constructs" the brachelet in the dial by having the same witdth and color. Somehow it would have been logical to repeat the same visual effect by re-constructing the round case inside the dial by putting the small hour dots in a circle instead of keeping then paralell to the square face. | Thank you Koen. Your... Thank you Koen. Your translation is similar to those that I've found, with slight variations. What I presented is exact as that on our tapestry. The others translations are below, X replaces the unknown word association. These are the five wise and five foolish XXXX XXXX the five wise and five bad XXXX The last word I'm assuming is virgin. This would make it a biblical quote. Perhaps not being able to associate certain words reflects localized dialect? I'll post a photo tomorrow. Thanks again Koen.

| Bar-tha-lona I swore to stop posting on Barcelona threads, but this is interesting. I am going to go with Bar-tha-lona. Someone correct me if I am wrong (as I may be) but I believe in Barcelona the name is pronounced with the lisp. The lisp has become a common part of the dialect because one of the spanish kings (does anyone know which one?) spoke with a lisp. In that time, whatever the King did was correct, so everyone began to intentionally speak with a partial lisp. Certain sounds have retained that pronunciation over time. So, after a long and pro ... | |||||

| A quick phone aside, I lived... A quick phone aside, I lived on a farm in Zimbabawe until '82, The phones in rural areas then were unbelievable, wooden boxes with some sort of winding device as a dialer and all this on a party line. I also remember my parents saving all the little bits of left over soap and mashing them up in a jug to make new soap, but we also had nannys, a gardener and a cook who literally lived in mud huts. Times they have-a-changed. | |||||

If you buy a ruler (I think you call it a measuring stick) it will generally have "english system" down one end and metric down the other, soft drinks are sold in metric as is alcohol, all pharmaceuticals are in metric measures, as well as the entire medical community/industry... oh, what you really mean to ask is, why are our roads in miles instead of kilometers? Well, you see, way back in the mid ...

Every decade is a like a new language, and I wanna speak all of them, not just one or two. And I wanna speak every dialect of every language on top of it. I want to see what you see, and so far beyond it's almost unimaginable. I don't want to tap 5% of everything that's ever been created, I want to tap all of it. To learn about all of it. The ultimate history lesson. You make that o ...

Faced with an over-active child a doctor might prefer to prescribe a drug, whereas the dietician might solve the problem by reducing the huge amounts of soft drinks an juices that makes children addicted to sugar. | One of these days... you are going to ask me for a new keyboard...after all that jumping... "Holy cow" is not easy to translate and yet we have a typical Antwerp dialect version of it. Most Dutch (or Flemish, for those who want to make a difference) will not understand it, but if you say:"...amaj menne frak..." in the good city of Antwerp, everybody will understand why you are jumping up and down. This being said, I do not think that what you read is common knowledge in design schools. It was never mentioned to me either...but, when I started to work for Vol ...

At least half of Baughman ads I see are deceptive, and the prices seem so insane I have to respect these people's "hustle". Fabric? I would do shaggy black or white faux mongolian, or white leather, or wacky colorful Girard, or marine vinyl if you have kids. White looks good to me with with chrome and wood. Anyway, Baughman "may" have used the wooden cross bar in some of his designs (please see "MetroRetro" website for an example attributed to him, but again, they never show ...
