| RE: Mid-Century Dining Chair Set Identification Help! | 2 Relevance | 5 years ago | mark737 | Identification | |
| This pair of side chairs sold at auction had John Stuart medallions, and there's a set for sale on 1stDibs also attributed to Stuart. As has been discussed here previously, John Stuart Inc was not a maker, but a dealer who sold furniture by Danish and American makers to interior designers and retailers through showrooms in Grand Rapids, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, London, and Hillerød, Denmark. So the next step would be to determine who actually made the chairs. Probably a Grand Rapids maker like Johnson or Widdicomb. Update: Saw a few listings at ... | |||||

| John Stuart was the exclusive USA importer for France & Søn in Hillerød. I think the presumption behind this has to be that if you were a John Stuart completist back then you going on a visit you would discover the Hillerød showroom said France & Søn over the door, not John Stuart, and that American production represented by JS was not offered for sale. Or in other words this was creative marketing. | |||||

| Cleaning and sealing a teak dining table | 2 Relevance | 4 years ago | frnturelvr | Repair | |
| I have a Skovby dining table that is in very good condition, but the wood is fairly dry and exposed and needs protecting. My two questions: - Can anyone recommend a good oil/finish to put on the table that will provide a hard surface and won't darken the color?- Can anyone suggest how to get out a few small food/grease stains before finishing the table (see picture)? | Anyone have a recommendation for a good dining table? One that seats 4 people. I kind of like the round ones. I'd especially like to find one where you don't have to worry about damaging it if you put a hot dish or something wet on it. I don't like dealing with coasters and placemats. dining room area (not room) is 88 inches by 92 inches. Buy an apartment in Metn | |||||

| ... if you enjoy, um, lively repartee. With that said, I don't disagree with any of what's been offered so far. Fortunately, oil finishes for wood furniture are among the easiest to apply and repair, and nearly impossible to muck up if you follow the directions on the container. I use standard "natural" indoor Watco Danish Oil Finish. Mostly because it's economical, readily available and, let's face it, nearly all of these furniture oils are primarily the same age-old formula of linseed oil and solvent. Some have added resins (natural and synthetic), other plan ... | |||||
| ID for Danish Teak Trestle Dining Table | 2 Relevance | 4 years ago | cdsilva | Identification | |
| It's been over 5 years since I've posted an ID thread here, but I just acquired a Danish teak trestle dining table that has me stumped. It was part of a great auction lot, which I primarily bought for the 2 Finn Juhl BO-116 dining chairs (also 3 Moller 78 side chairs were a nice kicker). The trestle table has a split table top that expands to fit three 12" (30cm) leaves. The base is almost all solid teak and does not disassemble. The table tops are lumbercore base with teak veneer, with a massive wedge profile edge banding of solid teak. Groove flat rails sc ... | |||||

| Hi there. No markings, nothing. Just the leg is distinctive. I've seen a few of them in France. Could they possibly be 1960's Italian....? | |||||

| @swellmel. It is possibly Norwegian. This table or very similar ones, has been discussed on a Norwegian FB Forum and the consensus is that is made by Viken Mobelfabrik, Model "Duke". Fredrik Kayser was the main designer for this company. None of the tables give good pics of the legs but the fact that they are not completely round at the top was mentioned. Posting an image of the underside of one of these tables and I have to say it is remarkably like yours. 2nd image; pic of table Attachment: DA-dining-table-viken-FB.jpg Attachment: Viken-image-table. ... | |||||

| DUX dining set value? | 2 Relevance | 4 years ago | Becconner91 | General discussion | |
| Hello, I bought this DUX dining set a while back at a steal! I unfortunately need to downsize so Im trying to get a good idea of what I should ask for as far as price goes, as you can see from the pictures the cane webbing on the chair backs need replaced and all the chairs and table base needs stripped and refinished as it is pretty rough. Thank you! Attachment: B86CDC0A-098C-4A43-86CE-E87C6CE943E8.jpeg | |||||
