Design Icons Amsterdam
In the first weekend of April, it’s time for the 7th edition of Design Icons Amsterdam: one of the largest fairs in Europe dedicated to vintage furniture.
Vintage design is getting more and more popular: people like to add character to their homes, in an eco-friendly way. The items at Design Icons are usually 50 or 60 years old, they have a `story` to tell. Besides that, people are attracted by the modern design of the furniture. The greatest icons were created in the 20th century: for example the Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen. Or the popular Eames shell chairs and the Red and Blue chair from Rietveld.
It is the time of modernism: innovative furniture from well-known designers as Braakman, Wegner, Bertoia, Mies van der Rohe, and Panton. Design Icons participants have various specialisms: from Dutch to Italian, from subtle teak furniture to raw industrial, from famous icons to affordable vintage.
Design Icons takes place in the industrial atmosphere of „De Kromhouthal” in the North of Amsterdam. Those who walk the total 140 meters of the hall are rewarded with a view over the IJ river and the city center.
