Hi everyone, Willem from The Netherlands here. I've scoured this forum for tips/advice around restoring an old Alvar Aalto table I've purchased. I'm not an experienced wood worker, so coming here for advice before doing anything I'll regret.

The top has worn, scratches and one deeper scratch. My main question would be: how to best restore this? My guess would be it heavily depends on the table having a layer of veneer or being made out of solid wood with lacquer? Attached a few (up close) pictures. Thanks in advance!

Willem

It is a veneer, light scratches can be sanded out but those large gashes would have to be filled and then you can try to color match them as best as possible.

Thanks Raijin, is it an idea to fill those gashes with the wood I (can) collect when sanding?
