If anyone can help identify the "source" of this pottery slab vase, and by "source" I mean: (1) area of world; (2) people of world; (3) or artist, or studio. I don't know how else to define "source" and I don't appreciate snide remarks from other forum users. I described the images as "pictographs" for lack of a better term, since they seem to be ethnic symbols of some sort.
I do appreciate the help given with posting the photos; I signed up for Photobucket and I hope I used it correctly, but since I am in my mid-70s I am still getting acquainted with the computer.

Gayle-- sorry about yesterday
It wasn't my intent to be snide-- actually, I don't think you used the word "pictograph" incorrectly at all.
The joke's on me-- before seeing your photos (since they weren't showing up), I thought you were using "pictograph" as a humorous portmanteau word-- PICTure & photOGRAPH combined into one word. I thought it was a cute mistake on your part, it turned out to be my mistake.
As to your vase-- this isn't exactly the forum for tribal art, but maybe someone will come along who recognizes the motif.
My offhand guess is that the pictographs (!) are supposed to look Native American (?),yet the glaze doesn't look like any Native American pottery I've ever seen. Are there any marks on the bottom of the vase?

apology accepted
I posted this query because I think the vase derives from mid-century, but I could be wrong. There are numbers on the bottom, no signature. The numbers are: 176, and A 18, scratched in by hand. I am puzzled as to what they mean.

Yes, it does look midcentury, in a way.
Sort of a midcentury take on Native American pottery.
The numbers could mean different things, depending on who made it. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck--

The side with the fish...
The side with the fish reminds me a little bit of Scottie Wilson (its not though) who took some inspiration from native American art

Y'all, I hate
to rain on anybody's parade, but it looks like it came straight out of a gift shop in Anchorage or Ketchikan to me.

more Polynesia to me
It looks like a California pottery or a Hawaiian pottery; 50-60's take on Polynesian design motifs but the human figures have that biomorphic shape
