This piece has got an interesting design history; The seat and the circular (in this case oval) support underneath is a Thonet design typical of the early 20th century. But the position of the legs in the front and to the rear of the seat, together with it’s very simple shaped backrest was a very adventurous design solution for this time. It meant that actually three legs instead of the usual two supported the backrest. Thanks to this ingenious design, the piece is a visually bold statement made up of only minimally shaped wooden pieces. The chair has been recently completely refurbished to its former glory. Our experienced craftsman has carried the restoration to the highest standard, reviving the beautiful natural pattern of both the seat and the backrest which were subsequently finished by hand in Shellac varnish. There is some minimal wear and tear gained over the years but in general the chair is in great vintage condition.
