your right jesgord,
Mine is marked pyrex on bottom and also marked (molded) in glass at top CHEMEX PAT 2241368, so likely an early one...wish I had the wood handles!
"In 1941, the Chemex coffeemaker, invented by Dr. Peter Schlumbohm, was produced by Corning Glass in Pyrex®. The unusual glass flask design was patented by Schlumbohm in 1938 using an ordinary Erlenmeyer chemical flask, funnel, and paper filter. It became an instant success and the prototype for many future coffeemakers."http://www.idsa.org/absolutenm/templates/?a=303
Don't need a bank...
... if you just give your change to people on the street who ask for it.
Or, if you're not fortunate enough to live where such people congregate, you can give your coins to a kid who wants to buy bubblegum, or drop them in the coffee-shop tip jar or the March of Dimes box or random expired parking meters... Or just say, "Keep the change."
new handle
You can buy a new handle directly from the company http://www.chemexcoffeemaker.com/Accessories.htm
Well worth the small investment, they make great coffee!!
p.s. don't forget to order some filters for it as well.
My
morning coffee is Chemex.
The best coffee brew.
Coin bank. I have many. For some reason a bunch of bears on a
shelf in the guest room collected as a child. And a few vintage bears
i bought on a trip south.
A big copper kettle by the door is full.
And another is a big five gallon glass carboy, half full. : )
For some reason, living in NYC, we ended up with pockets full
at the end of every day the last ten years.
Not so much these days with everything automated.
Came in handy last Halloween. I bet they each got about ten bucks!
So, no advice really. But using something you already have is what i do.
