I have a few side chairs made by "JG Furniture Company, Inc." of New York City. The legs are cast aluminum, with a nice embossed "jg" in each one. Seats and back are upholstered board. Online searches turn up a few other examples of JG Furniture Company pieces, but no information about the company itself. Any ideas?

It looks just like one of the chairs designed by Ernest Race in 1945 in the UK.
I am not sure if JG Furniture brought these to the USA or the company made look alikes. There are some similarities & differences in the aluminum profile.
JG Furniture Co., Inc. was one of the manufacturers included in the book called Modern Furnishings for the Home originally published in 1952 & reprinted in 1997 (when mid century modern became more mainstream). The book included many of the designs by the likes of Knoll, Herman Miller, Dunbar, Winchendon & others & the best imports of the time.
I'd never heard of this company, so I looked it up. There are a lot of "look-alikes" that seem to indicate they were manufactured by the company. For instance I saw various auction listings for recognizable Danish designs that seem to have been made by JG.
I am totally not familiar with the Ernest Race chairs, but the fact that the OP's chairs have JG cast into them makes me think they were made by JG.
On the positive side, MOMA has a chair made by the company designed by Ray Komai:
