@amber5. That is a possibility.

We had kitchen chairs, with bentwood seat and back configuration like yours, when I was growing up. They lasted pretty well until a portly Uncle came to visit  and leant right back when laughing at a story being told... that was the end of that chair. The rest eventually failed at the base of the back. I cannot remember how thick/thin the bentwood was. Certainly your chair frame looks more substantial than our chairs .
