Coincidentally, I live in a '63 Deck House
built not far from where Deck originated. Empyrean and Acorn are long gone and Deck House was officially defunct until a recent attempt at revival. Not sure how they're doing now.

So happy to
come across Deck House owners. I discovered Deck House and their competitor, TechBuilt, in eastern Massachusetts when I worked there for a cabinet company in the mid/late 'sixties. I delivered our cabinets to several of these houses, lovingly situated among open pinewood forest in new subdivisions west of Boston. The houses impressed me, with their panelized/post-and-beam construction, visible double-tongue-and-groove mill decking, and handsome mahogany sash.

The custom cabinets
in our house, SDR, were made by Wood Nu Kitchens in Brockton, MA, if I remember. They remain completely original with their distinctive stainless hardware intact. They were made to last. One thing you can say for Deck is that they used high-quality fixtures throughout. One exception would be the plastic flourescent lighting diffusers in the kitchens, or what I've come to call "overhead luggage compartments".
Our Deck House is among the more modest of the many still extant in the region at under 2K sq. ft. and it sits on a level, relatively open lot as opposed to most I've seen which are heavily wooded. We love it, though it likely won't remain after we leave as the lot is more desirable w/o this house on it these days. With its small bedrooms and tiny baths, it's a tear-down for sure.

Thanks, tktoo.
The foreman of our cabinet shop in Hanson was a resident of Brockton -- also home, at one time, to Enrico's Sandwich Bar (the world's narrowest saloon) and to Marciano's (yes, that Marciano), a most interesting drinking establishment -- and home as well of the Brockton Art Center, where in 1975 I bought my copy of "The Arts and Crafts in America 1876-1916."
Are your cabinets laminate, or wood ? Our cabinets were "Formica IKEA," if you will -- very decently made if conventional production face-frame units, made of lumbercore, fir ply, and 1/2" NOVAPLY particleboard (doors), entirely clad (typically) with Formica's 60's range of woodgrain patterns (!). In the mid-seventies our firm began production of Euro-box cabinets.
Doors of our traditional line were full-overlay with conventional spacing; hardware was external-mount freeswing with mag catches, and Amerock handles or pulls -- "Cabinet Jewelry®", according to the manufacturer . . .
I wish I had pursued the connection (probably a dealer -- but whom ?) between our company and the builder/seller of these Deck and Techbuilt houses . . .
