I have a heavy metal George Nelson HM Coconut chair (circa 1961) which needs new upholstery and padding. I have been informed that the current version, with black leather produced by Vitra, is incompatible for replacement.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the cover for my chair only the padding (which is in bad shape).
In order to get an upholsterer to produce one, how can i get an old worn one (with turnbuckles, etc.), or a detailed sketch or drawing to allow him to copy it?
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
My last post on this subject was probably ten years ago and in spite of excellent advice from pegboard modern, we did not proceed with reupholstering until three months ago. We took it to a traditional but adventurous upholsterer who waits for inspiration in his dreams (really). After almost giving up on it, he finally believes he has the solution and we are going back Monday, 29 July, to see again. If you are still interested, I'll let you know the result. As a reminder, we have a first generation HM model (which has snaps, hooks and all) plus the pad but without the original cover unfortunately.
Does anybody else have good answers for this Coconut model?
Charlie
