I've rehabbed a pair of 1965 tulip chairs with the upholstered back insert. The inserts were lovely in their day but had worn through to the fiberglass. The insert makes them impossible to recover, which is likely why they stopped making them but with a little investigation I found out how to take the chair apart and remove the cushion back insert. When you do it's then just a plain vanilla armless tulip chair.

Also folks might want to know white epoxy resin is a decent match to the white base and patches chips in the base beautifully. Clean the chip area and spread in the epoxy. Trim excess with an exacto blade after a few hours when the epoxy is solid but still soft and tacky. Next day when it's hard sand to final shape then polish with 600 wet sandpaper to polish to match the rest of the base.

Now I need new cushions. Does DWR sell just the cushions? Any place else? How much?

Seat cushions?
Do you mean seat cushions? Any decent upholsterer can make these if you have an old one to show him or her.
I made a couple myself just from looking at photos of them. You need a firm foam for the cushion and you have to get the shape and proportions just right but other than that it's not hard. I've found lots of Knoll fabrics on ebay for cheap, too---easier than trying to find a designer to order them for you. (At least for me it was!)
