I am certainly guilty of being too sarcastic sometimes (snarky if you will). I will not try to defend myself there.
What I am not guilty of, is false labeling on anything that I have listed, past or present, and I certainly hope future as well.
Being a novice in a field is not an excuse for obvious inaccuracy, and there is never an excuse for intentional deception (not that I'm accusing anyone of that).
On a tangent, I just finished reading an excellent Atlantic article on the current coddling of American college students. I'm certainly glad it wasn't like that when I was there, and I feel sorry for the professors who are there now.

There's a difference between snark, mean and worse. Certainly didn't mean to deceive, was under the impression that all the full covers were by the same designer.
I guess instead of correcting accidental inaccuracies with holier than thou snobbery is just how you roll. That's cool. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day on 4chan, troll.

"I was using the web auction and the bid went through at a price much higher than I was willing to/planning on paying"
I'm curious about this. How could a major auction house use automated online bidding that doesn't work? It's kind of alarming to think about.

Spanky - BidSquare is great. LiveAuctioneers has had major issues. I've won items then not won them. Here, I wasn't winning an item then won it at a much higher price. There's lag time even on high speed connections and it seems like it entered my bid well after the pricing in-person went up much higher...
I might move to phone bidding but I don't want to be tied to the phone for hours. It's been screwing me too many times. This time might cost me a lot of money... Mobile seems ok but it's testing and learning...
any other options I should consider?

So you are saying that you entered say... $900 and the software somehow changed this to $1200 without your consent?
The option I would consider would to freak the F out on liveauctioneers, Wright, the ghost of Charles Eames and maybe Obama until it was fixed.
I certainly wouldn't have paid the inflated error price and then posted an ad on craigslist list trying to make a 250% profit before I physically took possession of them.
Because that is sort of a crazy reaction to a software bug.

I think he is actually saying that he did enter the amount, but that physically present bidders--to his belief--had already outbid the amount, so what he entered should not have won, and then at the end he had somehow won the auction.

Yes to both and freak out I indeed did. Live Auctioneers hadn't responded. I posted the ads to try and do something about it in case I got stuck with the items.

I am pretty sure that if you bid via phone, you can simply watch the auction online and call in about 10-15 minutes, or whatever they recommend, before your item goes on the block. Most places estimate pretty accurately the speed of the sale (lots per hour), or you can figure it out yourself judging by when the sale started and what lot they're on at a given moment.

I still don't understand how the bid went through at a price higher than you wanted to pay when you had to type the amount in.
Either you willingly typed in 1100 and won or typed in a different amount and there was a software bug
Honestly I feel a bit stupid for not following as others seem to be able to 🙁

Retrolampguy- I don't know exactly how it happened either. On the site, you don't enter a max bid price, you click a button to make the next bid and apparently it wasn't synced or something or the bid button price was higher than it was displayed or something else entirely different. I have no idea... Either way. Not using them again...

Your story doesn't make a lot of sense, but it is amusing.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, there is a "bid button" and you do not enter in a specific price it just jumps in specific increments like $50 or $100 at a time, and you thought you were bidding say from $700 up to the next increment say $800 but instead the bidding had jumped from $1000 to $1100 by the time it processed your mouse click or touch of the phone screen? If this is the case it happens to me during fantasy football auction draft all the time, but hats not real money so I'm ok.

If that was the case, it would logically have been the actual point of this thread. Instead, it reads more like gas on a fire.

That's exactly right, Rnmb
