I think it must have got damp or something. The legs are slightly splaying, and as a result gaps in bentwood have appeared. Is there any advice you could offer with regard to repairing the legs? Is it possible to glue them somehow? Or is the little stool beyond help..
Many thanks for any help.
Stew

Note that the wood
itself is splitting, not the glue lines.
Wood -- particularly wood under stress -- doesn't like unattended wetting . . .

I tried using some double-sided sticky tape, an empty plastic bottle and some damp kitchen roll. It doesn't look very good, but it was quite a lot of fun.
Thank you for your help.. shame about the stool.

Is there a reason not to...
Is there a reason not to just inject some glue and clamp it down, and then simply refrain from jumping up and down on it?

That was my plan. Might as well try and make it a bit more sturdy, then use it as a nice little side table. It still looks nice.

Weird. When my stools go funny, they tell jokes like this:
This fly goes into a tavern and he walks up to a woman sitting at the bar and says, "I like that stool you're sitting on."

That is odd
My stools stay away from the scatological humor (perhaps it hits too close to home). They tend to tell jokes like this one...
Three fonts walk into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, "We don't serve your type in here."

I decided to sell my stool on...
I decided to sell my stool on ebay, and a guy has contacted me stating this:
"The splayed legs were a feature of the Aalto stools made in Sweden and not a defect, the H&S aware Swedes changed the design to make it more stable. The Artek factory in Hedemora, Sweden only operated 1946?1956 so it's not a 1930s stool. Neither is it a Finmar stool; Philip Morton Shand never resurrected his company Finmar after WWII but sold the company to the Dane Paul von Stemann who didn't work with Aalto furniture but focused on Danish design."
I wasn't aware of any of this. Is this right?
