I just finally got my 3 79" pole CSS grouping up on the wall. This time, I followed proper protocal and used the top and bottom stablizers. The right side is the super rare 48" wide shelves and the left is the standard 32" shelves.

I still have 2 48" walnut shelves and 1 32" walnut shelf left....

By da way
CSS is Comphensive Storage System by George Nelson for Herman Miller.
It was designed - from the get-go - for BOTH office, commercial and home use.

79" poles and 48" wide shelves
Funny, nobody has commented on these unusual sizes.
Standard poles are 96" and standard shelves are 32" wide.

OK
Allright, I'll comment. 48" is a litle rare but I have seen them many times. The poles can be cut to any size to fit whatever envirenment they are in. 79" 77" 56"...what size would you like? I will say that I believe that your system would look a little better if you moved the swing light to one of the outer poles instead of in the middle and also that it may be hard to read/use the dictionary with the shelf that is intended to hold it being that high up. Other than that?...Nice.

Thanx, Norm
I'm as insecure as the next collector and like feedback!
These poles do not appear to have cut down...perhaps at the time, custom lengths were available directly from Herman Miller, depending on the installation.
I had originally planned to put a regular shelf on the upper left, but for some strange reason, my one remaining 32" walnut shelf's hooks don't seem to lock into the clip. I was planning to use the magazine shelf to display a piece of art, as soon as I find something right.
On the upper right, the 48" piece had a lift-up front, but I haven't put it on yet.
Thanx for your feedback.

CSS lamp
I must be out of my mind, but I just won a rare CSS cylinder lamp for $560.00. It's the really rare double light - which lights up and down.
I have one cylinder that only lights down.
So, now I'll have one cylinder and one disc lamp for each of my two CSS bookshelf assemblies.

Nelson designed two lamps as part of the Comprehensive Storage System.
9137 is the round lamp with the plastic shade, available in white or yellow plastic (possibily more colors)
9138 is the black metal cylinder lamp. It apparently came two ways; with only one bulb socket (pointing down) or with two sockets (pointing up AND down).
I have one cylinder with the bulm only pointing down....I'll be getting the cylinder with the two bulb sockets.
Hope this helps...and thanx

One more lighting option, I forgot
Oh yea, you could also buy walbut shelfs with an installed alumunum strip across the front of the shelf with a florescent bulb. I have two such shelves.....

This is
American romantic modernism, not European streamlined modernism !

I thought...
It was the Europeans were romanticizing while the Americans were streamlining the process?
