Hi everybody! I have a couple of beautiful Eames side chair shells at home waiting for bases. My wish would be to fit them with Dowell bases reproductions from Modernica. The only problem is that Modernica won't sell me those bases for copyrights problems in Europe (where Vitra owns the rights for the Eames chairs and bases)... So my question is does any one here have a solution to my problem? Did any of you ever tried to import Modernica bases in Europe and how did he manage to do it?? Or does anyone have any idea of how I could do??

Many thanks for your help!!

Try asking the guy behind www.modernica.dk. He has a large store here in Copenhagen.

Try another site.
Try contacting a store that sells Modernica items, like velocityartanddesign.com, maybe they will ship them to you.

Just to let you know...
After I recieved all your precious advice I checked with the different companies and even with US Modernica resellers and finaly the chipest way for me to get my bases here in Paris is to order them to a Texan shop : Metro Retro Furniture! They have a great price for the bases 169$ (even cheaper than Modernica itself)and can arrange shipping for a very decent price! So it's far cheaper than the rather abusive price modernica.dk asked for and still cheaper than the great deal fiftie-fiftie.com offered to me... I thought it might be of some interest for other Europeans fellows that would get dowel bases! Anyway thanks once more to those who helped me in my search! Without you I would certainly never have found this great solution!

It should be by something...
It should be by something like 20/30? per base(shipping included) but I'll tell you that for sure once I'll receive them! the only downside is that you have to leave near an internationnal airport to benefit from low shipping rates! (I'll have to pick up the bases at the shipping company airport terminal in Paris).

Benoit,
Keep a sharp eye on the people at Metro Retro Furniture. "Read between the lines".
You may consider buying from Modernica (the source in the US) through a friend located in the US and have them ship them to you. This guarantees you get exactly what you desire.
