A guy about an hour away is selling a Lane bar with a chrome tulip base. I am in the market for a bar that is 30 inches in width or less. Anyhoo, I have seen this same bar attributed to Paul Evans in a couple places. 1st Dibs also listed this piece (already sold) but did not attribute it to Paul Evans. I have attached a photo of the bar. Does anyone know if Paul Evans actually designed such a bar for Lane? The seller is asking $850. I have no idea if this is a reasonable price or not as I have not seen the piece before. I wouldn't have to worry about shipping costs as the seller is only about an hour away.
If anyone has suggestions for other bars that would fit the space, I am all ears. The bar would need to be 30 inches or less wide and no more than 60 inches tall. Thanks!

Paul Evans
Paul Evans never designed anything for Lane.
If you want to know more about Paul Evans there is an excellent book on his work:
Paul Evans: Designer & Sculptor by Jeffrey Head.
You can buy it on Amazon

Okay, you verified my hunch...
Okay, you verified my hunch that it wasn't a Paul Evans piece. I only saw a couple places where it was attributed to him. Most places just listed it as a Lane bar. And it didn't really look like his other works anyway, IMHO. When I think Paul Evans, I think of the mainly furniture that uses quite alot of metal. Many of his pieces are brutalist designs also. I had never seen a Paul Evans piece that looks like the bar pictured, but you never know so I thought I would ask. Thanks for verifying my gut opinion.
Now if I could just determine what to offer for the bar. $850 seems steep for a small bar that is probably a more generic piece that mashed together influences from several designers. I have seen larger nicer bars that cost less, but of course, those bars don't fit in my space. I don't want to lowball the guy but I don't want to overpay either. Does $500 seem a reasonable offer to you all?
I feel that price is crazy for that
but then again I have never paid next to "retail" for any of my items. Without the "tulip" base it really is a sort of blah bar but obviously you are pressed for space and a bar is on your wish list. I attached pics of what this looks like opened for the other members.
Well, I definitely won't be...
Well, I definitely won't be paying $850 for it. Considering that smaller bars are a bit harder to find and the bar seems to be in very good condition, I was thinking $400 to $500 was a reasonable price. If the seller isn't willing to negotiate on price, then I'll just walk away and continue my search. The seller is only an hour from me so I can pick it up easily which is a big plus. Make a day trip of it and hit some of the saltwater stores out that way too. I need a new fish since my possum wrasse went carpet surfing 🙁 That's what I get for forgetting to put the top back on the aquarium.
Springfield is almost 10...
Springfield is almost 10 hours from here. Once you add in shipping (if they would ship at all), the price would probably be closer to $350. Not too much lower than $400. And the piece in Springfield doesn't look to be in the greatest condition. I'm not sold on this bar but I do think it is worth more $150 especially since the one I am looking at seems to be in excellent condition.
