well..
It was $150 and he didnt think it had the original hands. Someone had replaced the motor with a battery operated one. I am going back tomorrow (to pick up something I bought today). I wanted to see a pic of it to see if he was right. Do you think it would be a good deal without the original hands? It's a wood hexagon face, in beautiful condition. I just now I have seen it somewhere.

I wish I could visualize it
Is it the diamond face on a lathed spindle?
If so, it's 2252, one of those crazy spindle clocks designed by Irving Harper 17" high, 8" wide and 6" diameter.
I don't know a hexagon table model.....

Wright20, 06 December 2005, Lot 211
Is that the clock you are describing?
I'm on my iPhone right now so I can't paste the link, sorry.

Is the top one the one you're talking about?
Both are Arthur Umanoff designs. I own the bottom one. Both are beautiful, and are not that common (though they're not as valuable as one of the Nelson-era Table models....)

Yes! Mystery solved
Thanks guys!
That's it - the hexagon clock in Barry's pic. I cant find the one in the auction, beloved, but I would be curious if it was the same clock how much it went for.
I was beginning to wonder if it might be Umanoff. I think it's very nice, but I have spent too much $$$ on clocks already to buy it...Plus, it looks like the hands were indeed changed out.
PS WHile I am typing this, I'm listening to five foxes romp and play outside my front door in downtown Phoenix! There is a family of foxes that just grew up and they live in the sidewalk gutter in front of my house - mom, dad, and 3 almost full grown pups!

thanks!
For $240, I would have snatched those two up. It would look so nice to have one clock on the night stands on either side of the bed. I will keep my eyes out for those now.

I ended up with those two...
They are fun little clocks.
I also just picked up that odd Nelson wall clock with the wood dial and black hour makers (except for 12 o'clock in red) at the L.A. Modern Auction. I'd attach a picture, but am incapable of doing so it appears.

Nice!
I am jealous you got those clocks Midmod50. Can I ask how much you got them for? I cant find them on the la modern site, but I think I found the gn clock - below. What a great find!

I actually picked up those 2 Umanoffs at the Wright Auction
years back so the pictures on this thread are of mine. As for the Nelson clock, thanks for posting the picture. I'm looking forward to getting it. You can't tell from this picture, but the dial is concave. It looks like it could be a cool design, but I'm withholding judgment.
By the way, the George Nelson Exhibit opens in Spain on June 25th at the Sede Fundacion A Coruna. If anyone is going to be in Spain through September 27th, check it out. I'm hoping to get out there to see it

To repeat
I highly recommend everyone trying to locate a copy of the excellent Vitra Nelson exhibition catalog. It's expensive and super difficult to find in the US, but it's become my new bible.
