Purchased a Poul Henningsen PH5 Plus pendant lamp less than a year ago. Just love it , thanks to the wonderful people on this board who suggested it!! Had the lamp installed over my kitchen table which has 8 foot ceilings. The cord was very long so the electrician cut it to fit. We are now moving to a new place that has vaulted ceilings. Of course the lamp as is will be too short so I need to replace the cord. I have ample cord left (thank goodness I thought to keep it and not throw it away like my dh insisted I do - I keep everything !!!!) from the excess that was cut. Have any of you replaced wiring for a pendant lamp? I probably won't do it myself but find a lamp store (if I can find one in my area) to have it done. I am concerned about having the lamp look exactly the way it is supposed to and not ruin it.

Hi L:
Don't you worry, will be very easy. Most of the electricians would do it. Provably the same that will put it again will, just ask him, and just try to find someone that is not too careless.
Although you kept the cord,I don't know what you think, but I think that you should change it all for a new. I don't know how easy/difficult will be to find THE SAME cord. I wouldn't left that in the electrician hands, who could find all the same. Good luck.

wire replacement
Thanks, gustavo! I do have at least 6 feet of the original wire for my ph5. The lamp is only 8 months old and came with quite a bit of white wire of which I only used 3 feet. Somehow I had to forsight to hang on to it, much to my husbands dismay ( I keep everything!! hence we are now having a monumental TAG SALE in the morning!!!). I will try my electrician and see what he can do. I just am concerned that it may not look the way it originally looked. Hopefully it will be fine!

Speaking of pendant wire
Does anyone know of a source for replacement wire of this type (heavy duty, meant to support the weight of the lamp)?

If you live near an IKEA, they sell cords for hanging fixtures. They only show white on the website but the store near me also has them in orange, yellow, blue and maybe another color or two. The cord is 15 feet long. It has a bulb socket on one end and a plug on the other but these can be cut off, of course.
It says maximum weight is 4 lbs. That would probably be enough for most fixtures, I would think.

Thanks
I knew IKEA sold some hanging lights that I might be able to scavenge a cord from, if I wanted to buy a whole light fixture. I did not know they also sold cord kits. Thanks for pointing that out. I will be within a mile or two of an IKEA store this weekend and will pick one up.

Light and heavy fixtures
Hi Tchp!:
Spanky's tip/advice is perfect, even more if you have an Ikea near you, and if the weight is less than 4 lbs, not so heavy fixture.
Check if you are lucky and have the same system: See the other extreme, where is the lampholder, and if there is a "washer-screw/ed" on the extreme of the lampholder, you won't need to connected your self just un-screw the "washer" of your lamp and reconnect it to the Ikea's cord.
For heavy fixtures:
If not, you should need a cord with "steel soul" (alma de acero) or something like that should be the name. Is a cord with not 2 but 3 (three) wires, two as always, to connect + and - and the third is made of steel, so just looking could see the difference with the others. This one will support the weight of the fixture. You need to tie this to the ceiling "somewhere" some boxes have a special hanger for that or wherever...., and the same for the fixture, the steel wire must be tied in the lampholder in a special hole some of them have or somewhere....For this type of fixture find an electrician will be more easy than doing it yourself if you are not so familiar with that.
Not to frighten anybody, just to take care. From time to time, some people came to the store angry because the fixture fall over the head...!, most of the times they do them themselves without connecting the steel wire to the ceiling.
Check which type of wire you already have in your fixture, if just 2 or 3 and do the same...
Hi L!: Congratulations! Now I understand why keep everything! you had enough cord/wire! (I thought you kept not enough!). Great also that you kept it, and find it later too! (I also keep everything... but never find again! In this case that's why my wife is like that?)
