That would be me
Thanks. Still have it. Still love it.
I've had several compact sofas, and this 3473. I'm partial to the 3473 if only because it is less common, I like the horizontal piping detail, the legs are more sculptural and the satin finish of the legs goes well with other pieces we have. More so than the polished chrome of the sofa compact.
It's an acquired taste. I know folks who hate the 3473. They think it looks like a fat, clumsy sofa compact. To each his own I guess.
I do find the sofa compact a bit more comfortable (more lower back support) than the 3473 but neither is really a "lay back and watch movies" kinda' sofa. In our family room where the TV is we have a Nelson modular group sofa which is great since it's so long I can stretch out on it (I'm pretty tall) and the arms are a great height for resting your head. Just add a pillow and I'm so comfortable that if the movie is not really engaging, I'll nod right off.
3473 is silly good looking...
You did well getting that one, Pegboard. And you'll be pleased to know that I've placed my rump on your very sofa as well I'm sure. That design is definitely one I've flagged for purchase down the road after the kids are old enough to care. I've owned a regular Compact. But both are really more suited for a study than a living room.
There's a 3473 sofa for sale...
There's a 3473 sofa for sale on Rago. Check the list of passed lots for sale:

309 CHARLES EAMES / HERMAN MILLER Aluminum Group sofa upholstered in rose-colored velvet
And the price tag is only $1240...
Yup
I like the burnished look of vintage aluminum bases on pieces like the sofa, universal base tables and aluminum group chairs. Also the patina of vintage stainless steel with the scuffs and light scratches knocking back that mirror-like finish. Same with wood pieces. If it's shiny and perfect it does not have the same soul as something with some wear and history. Maybe it's me, but I like stuff with a little "love" on it.
Reupholster a Sofa Compact ?
Hi,
I saw an Eames Sofa Compact for sale and while I love the look of the furniture, the fabric isn't in the best shape. Would it be worth reupholstering ? Or maybe that's not cost effective at all given the amount of cloth needed + work ?
What would be an estimate using Maharam/Kvadrat fabric ?
Thanks for your inputs !
