I am interested in the natural look of a cowhide rug in a modernist aesthetic, but how comfortable are they? The ones I have seen are relatively thin and this would be over a hardwood floor. Its quite different from the sinking into a plush carpet feeling. Any thoughts on this?

wrong thread..
It appears "comfort" has its own thread now! whats the matter with everyone talking about comfort suddenly? did something happen to the planet whilst ive been in my drunken stupor all day?. Buy it they look cool, when your sick of the smell of it throw it out of the window.

buy it if you like the look
We have thin wool dhurries and thin FLOR carpet tiles in our house. I don't care about thick and soft, I care about defining an area with a rug and adding color and texture.
In fact, one of the things I like about both dhurries and FLOR is that they ARE thin. They look so neat and compactly flat on the floor. It's a clean look.
I have considered a cowhide rug but our black Lab would probably take it over. Maybe someday after she's gone.

always check quality of hide rugs
Apart from subjective preferences (thin vs shaggy rug prefs), always check the quality of a hide rug and only buy them from places you trust and can go back to (i.e. not abroad, not on internet).
My parents once bought a beautiful reindeer rug on a trip to Norway. It has never served as a rug though, since the rug kept on loosing hairs, esp when you walked on it. Dont panic, not all rugs are problematic.
Rug Quality depends on the tanning process, and perhaps also a bit on when the animal was killed. Please inform yourself and buy from a trusted place only.

Of course quality is very...
Of course quality is very important but most on the time you can check it when you see it. The size is also importante and will give you diff kind of prices. Reindeer rug from scandinavian countries are not so big. I thought they used it most some protection through the winter, clothes, etc...

Such a shame this forum continues to struggle with astroturfing like this.

@kyle-barrett, I would agree except that 'struggle' implies effort.

I would have been unsure whether you meant the astroturfing was lazy (if your first post in a forum includes a link to your product that's lazy astroturfing, as opposed to the long-game, sleeper-cell, respectable astroturfing we all love to see play out) or the moderation by whoever owns this place now.

But I've since read the lockdown blues thread and I know exactly where you're coming from.

Oh well.

@tktoo2.@kyle-barrett. "Astrosurfers"  (nice term BTW) are not as annoying as fruit flies, fungus gnats and midges (who are all emerging from their winter slumber) and they are much easier to ignore.

@kyle-barrett, @lexi, Yes, change is inevitable and, not to disparage our kind hosts in any way, the forum has evolved. I know I sound like cranky old guy by implying laziness and lamenting how this would never pass muster back in the day, but the inescapable fact is that I am getting older and crankier! I'd offer a valid excuse here if I could come up with one...

Your prerogative to be cranky and/or old notwithstanding, I'd like to point out that while this particular change could have resulted in perhaps some more engaged digital overlords, this was an issue before the forum migrated.

In fact I remember it being embraced. One particular thread I'd love to read again involving a particularly robust and ghastly coffee table (with a helpful link to purchase, no doubt) being personified as the perpetrator of a home invasion that genuinely tickled me.

@tktoo2. "Time and tide...".... I find I am muttering and speaking to myself as I go around the Supermarket without realising I can be heard. Lots of funny looks; definition of getting older but I try not to be cranky. I consider myself to be fairly even tempered albeit with the odd " flare-up". My Family disagree. Ah well.

@lexi, @kyle-barrett, Dear, dear friends from across the pond, it's probably best if I respond over on the OT and perhaps a little later as it's still the middle of a warmer than typical afternoon here and the lovely lady of the house has outdoor chores around her garden that she expects help with. Please forgive me.
