Is there a way to remove Danish L-nails that are broken at the base without enough left to pull them out? or will it be fine to add another nail above or below it?

Just stick another in above it. You might want to pre-drill the hole.

For future reference,
get a pair of diagonal pliers (sometimes called nippers) in the smallest size, which I think is about 4". They don't have any bevel on the flush edge of the blades, which makes them great for grabbing very close to the surface of whatever. Of course, they're no good if there's absolutely nothing to grab but most of the time there's something there.
Ace Hardware stores had them awhile back in buckets, $3.99 each, and Home Depot sells them in a set with other small tools intended for electronics repair. I mostly use them for pulling broken staples out of wood but they come in handy for L nails, too.
But yeah, just stick a new nail in above or below the broken one if you can't get it out. It will not make any difference in the weaving.

Thanks for the help. The ones that broke flush with the wood I just added a nail above, but was able to get a few out. First time weaving an entire seat. Thought it came out nice especially with the older oak. One down three to go.

Thanks. A lot of trial and error even with a tutorial, but very satisfying to complete! Does anyone have a source for real L nails? I ordered the ones from Frank's, and they are crap. hard to work with and look at. The ones from caning.com look right, but I thought the same about the ones from Frank's.
