The design of this dining chair is quite similar to the work of Oswald Haerdtl and Radomir Hoffman who both designed chairs for various Czech furniture producers at the time. The chair and its aesthetic perfectly embodies the elegance of the so-called Brussels Style (named after the Expo 1958 in Brussels where Czechoslovakia won 13 prizes including one in the furniture category). Suman used the same design principle for the backrest as other designers, but made his own intepretation by using a larger and more expressive semi-circle for the gap in the backrests. The chair is in great vintage condition with absolutely minimal wear and tear. The frame has been strengthened in a recent restoration and the original damaged fabric has been replaced by an identical new one. All the wooden parts have been hand finished by Shellac and Nitro varnishes in order to achieve a greater gloss finish.
