Hi...my mother passed and bequethed some furniture to me...could someone give me a price or estimate of the following item:

Baker end table, Historic Charleston Reproductions, satin wood band, rectangle shaped with drop leafs, when leafs folded out the table becomes oval shaped, has drawer - probably purchased in the early-mid 1980's

height 28 inches
length 29 3/4 inches
width w/ leafs out 37 3/4 inches
width leafs down 19 inches
drawer 15 1/2 inches wide

If you respond, I can also send a picture of this item...someone more expert than I told me that this item is probably worth in the range of $1700...I'm hoping someone honest can give me more exact information...thanks, Brian

I can also be contacted at 917-359-2643 or schiller25@yahoo.com

Pembroke table?
Brian:
Do a Google web or image search for:
baker pembroke table
Do those look like what you have?
Some of the hits you'll get from Google are auctions; the two that I looked at estimated the value at $200-300 and $400-$600, but I didn't see any actual closing prices.
If you're interested, you can read about that table and the rest of the licensed furniture that Baker makes for the Historic Charleston Foundation at:

[edited to correct the name of the Historic Charleston Foundation]

Hi Fstfrwd,
Thank you very much for your imput...I found a picture at worthpoint.com, under "Pair 1930s Baker Furniture Mahogany Pembroke Tables" that appears to be very close if not the very item that I have...it not only looks like my piece, but the dimensions pretty much match up...it didn't have a price...I need to research the price more...do you have anymore ideas in terms of finding the price and a good way to sell this piece?...ebay?

Yeah, Ebay.
Search Ebay for:
pembroke table
You'll see dozens. They're all Chippendale reproductions, but some are allegedly 100+ years old while others are more contemporary.
I think Ebay'd be the best place to sell your table. By examining the various listings (and maybe also looking at completed auctions), you should be able to come up with some good descriptive text and a reasonable price expectation for your table.
You might also want to throw an ad up on Craigslist -- it's free to do so, so it can't hurt -- but I wouldn't expect results from that unless your price is very low.
Good luck...

Baker pembroke table
Fstfrwd,
Guess what - I contacted Charleston Reproductions like you suggested, and they said that the piece currently sells for $5300 ($4500 on sale). But they couldn't give me a definitive price without the condition and year it was made. But that's pretty amazing - $5300.

my folks passed away and...
my folks passed away and the whole house they lived in was Baker. It was
from the best collections of the 60's and 70's
I am sorry to say we got so little for that fabulous furniture that i know they payed a lot of money for.
It seems for some reason Baker does not bring the top dollar it should, at Estate Sales.

It does in Charleston, Lloyd!
I have a friend who is a dealer in Mt. Pleasant which is just across the river and she scours the southeast buying up Baker tables for cheap, cheap. She turns around and sells 'em to her Charleston ladies for beaucoup dollars. I'm not sure why they love it so, I think they think it just looks good in their Chaaaaahlston paaaahlors. Bless their hearts.
If anybody's got Baker stuff for sale that is in pristine condition, take it to Charleston, SC.
