What is $135 today?
$135 sounds cheap, but $135 in 1955 (or so) dollars is probably quite a lot of money.
Does anyone have a handy inflation calculator? My guess is that $135 in 1955 is equal to at least $1000 in today's terms.

I asked this question when we were selling some marbro murano lamps that cost $150 each back in the day. My mother-in-law to be said that average house mortgage around that time was $95, so $1000 seems a good approximation.

was a premium retailer of fine Scandinavian goods in the postwar period (do they exist today ?) in New York and perhaps other large cities. I think of them in relation to table-top and other small items, but did't realize they sold furniture.

In 1955 you could rent an apartment for $75.00 a month.
This was expensive.....
I still don't know where this ad was from but if it from the New York Times or the New Yorker magazine, then sophisticated people with money read both publications.
