Dear Members,
a client asked me if I could identify the designer-maker-model of those console bought by his parents in Latisana, north-east of Italy back in 1953. The Shop was a high-end store and importer from Sweden.
Both consolle are made of solid Teak and in mint condition.
If someone could tell me the value, it will be well appreciated.
If anyone needs photos of detail don't hesitate to ask.
Kind regards,
Ben Zur Levi.
Are they marked made in Sweden?
They look like nice pieces. I would be extremely surprised if they are solid teak cases, and it would be pertinent for their identification if they were. A photo of the top or side with enough light to reveal the grain pattern on that super dark teak will be sufficient to determine that.
Plenty of us are happy to help you identify pieces, especially if we can get lots of photos, but we don't really do value, that you will have to determine for yourself based on the identification. And part of the reason is that it would be a nonsense valuation anyway. Swedish sideboards in northern Italy is an excellent examples of why: I doubt any of us has an idea of the demand for such an item there, or the possible venues it could be sold in, if you add to this condition, terms of sales, seller's desired speed of sale, salesmanship, etc, you can see why it would be nonsense. Also bear in mind that an insurance valuation, retail valuation, auction valuation, and peer to peer valuation would all be very different, probably with a range of 5 to 1, but that is highly arguable.
I would not believe the client. Nearly every owner of a Danish Modern piece thinks it is solid wood, and in maybe 99% of the cases they are wrong and the piece is veneer over particle board, or, if it an early piece, over "møbelplade".
It only really matters because if it is actually solid teak, then per the above, a huge number of the possibilities have been eliminated.
