| RE: Armchair - is it worth repairing? Who made it? | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | leif ericson - Zephyr Renner | General discussion | |
| Well, the right to a design is a legally interesting thing. Such things differ by jurisdiction, but generally speaking any piece of furniture of the era that was produced at a volume greater than one (or perhaps 10) lost any opportunity at copyright and the other forms of rights expired long ago. So the designs can be reproduced commercially and legally. Where it gets complicated is that the designer’s name can be trademarked for use in selling new furniture, so it can be a problem to make an Erik Buck/Buch stool and sell it as Erik Buck. So there really ... | |||||
| ID Chair, looks like a Wiggle Side Chair by Gehrys - replica of sorts | 1 Relevance | 4 years ago | scsc | Identification | |
| Hello, I'm assisting my home owner identify this chair. The design seems to closely copy that of the Wiggle Side Chair. Prior to listing the chair I wish to have an idea of cost so that my client is properly represented. I'm in the USA, and so our markets might differ a bit. Thank you for your time and consideration. It also gave contact details for the distributors/retailers in many countries. An interesting website! http://www.tecnolumen.de/14/Wagenfeld_lamp_Genuine_Imitation.htm Has anyone come across this sort of manufacturer's detail for other classic designs? | |||||

| Hi LRF, I try to put myself in their shoes and if Ray And Charles Eames were my grand mother and father I would have a serious talk with the Herman Miller people and point out how important it is for their bussines and for for me emotionally to keep their home in good shape. Of course the community (at differen levels has some interests to but as with Falling Water, public interest only kicks in when the site is public. | |||||
| Found An Eames Walnut Stool Original or Old? | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| I found this stool in an old storage warehouse that I was cleaning out around 1995.. A friend of mine just told me that it was an Old Herman Miller stool and when looking online (ebay) I am seeing a lot of new stools and only one old one... How can I tell the differance between and old stool and a new one? As you can tell by the images, this one is not in the BEST of condition... The wood on the side of the stool has split from maybe drying out over the years or?? #1: By looking at the pictures is this a replica or an old stool #2: How do I care for the sto ... | |||||

| ... I am buying a piece from ebay and refurbishing ~ a "fresh" authentic piece is still available. So am I not to have this "feel" in my home due to finances? Ethically yes, but "dude" $2696. vs $160 with the visual differance being the base! I too have the capabiliy to produce artwork as mention in a previous post about an Eames poster and occasionally do pieces for myself like a Chanel/Warhol thing for my bathroom, but would never sell. I would prefer not to disrespect the designer of this piece, but I am getting it and as in fashion, you get what you pay for ... | |||||

| This might be the right time... This might be the right time to reinsert my comment that was deleted today............. Vive la differance. Thats the great thing about the fact we all enjoy design,it does something different for all of us,what makes me happy might make someone else feel differently. I guess for me my reason for being more Pop based in terms of preference comes from the fact I came from a house full of antiques. My dad is an avid collector of all things Georgian, the only colours were mahogany, walnut,Giltwood and rosewood, then I discovered wild ... | |||||

| ... or something to that effect. Call them and they don't pull any punches when telling you the differance between their repros and originals. Nothing misleading about that. By the way, you think people buying a $900 womb chair vs. the original don't know it's a repro. The marketplace is pretty educated and I agree that MANY sites are borderline fraud selling a $1500 Barcelona knock off with no inclusion of the word reproduction, interpretation, knock off, etc. 🙂 This debate will go on forever though... | George Kovacs Arc Floor Lamp | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | atmospheredesigns | General discussion | |
| Was looking for an arc floor lamp and found them priced anywhere from $ 2000.00's to $250.00. Does anyone know about the origional arc lamp? Was Kovacs the origional designer? I have found Kovacs and Arco to be similar in photos aside from the vent holes on the top and differant shaped bases. The one I settled for was $160.00 w/ a black circular marble base that looks like an Arco (should be here by end of week). I hope I am happy with it being it's all I can justify at the time. Oddly I saw the exact lamp on The Donald's show last night. Then watched 9 1/2 ... | |||||

I do agree with you that they fade to what appears to be an orangey or salmon color though. (Which I like better) If I had to stretch, I would say "Pinky Coral" at most, but that is still not nearly orange. (It may be that the batch colors differed a bit, whatever the name. I have often expressed my belief that some intentional experimentation happened with color-- WITHIN the stated color names ...

| I couldn't tell you the difference but also VERY similar to a Knut Saeter design for Vatne Mobler. And both the designs Leif and I have identified are very commonly misattributed to Hans Olsen, and not even in the usual way dealers do it, to inflate price - but they have straight 'sides' (that is the side beneath the armrest). I think it's just been baked in now. | |||||

| ah--that one actually looks better but I think it's just because it's a low contrast black & white photo! I wondered what the two buttons were on the dirty white chair above. That explains it! I also saw photos of the backs of the other chair design with the same shape at the top--one single button. One site even showed how the ellipse section could be rotated a bit--maybe to show that the cushion was loose, I dunno. The free-hanging cushion with weights is such a good option. Having that support behind your neck and having the right lumbar support mak ... | |||||

| hey spanky, i was actually referring to the difference in height between the german chair and mine (and lu's). the top section of the back appears higher on the german chair which led me to think that perhaps they were originally designed as a 'his and hers' pair ... but i suspect you are right about the reupholstery ! kyle, after years following this forum, i can definitely say that you're comments are rarely useless and there is definitely a Sven Ivar Dysthe vibe about this chair .. well spotted! cheers all, bb | |||||

Put another way, pick-up trucks back then were car frames with heavier springs and more ground clearance. 🙂 My dad towed boats even bigger than this Dorsett pictured with his Ford Galaxy 500 and a V-8. He just had trailer hitches welded to the frame. "Screw drilling and bolting it," he said, "put it on there right." In the good old days, there was also very little difference in sturdiness of the construction of the automatic transmissions ...
