| RE: Armchair - is it worth repairing? Who made it? | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | mark737 | General discussion | |
| ... in EU nations. https://www.farrer.co.uk/news-and-insights/no-need-for-a-pretty-face-copyright-protection-for-functional-designs/ The US has always had more difficult criteria for protection but that hasn't stopped companies like Herman Miller and Knoll from going after replica makers and retailers. HM filed suit against replica web retailer Interior Icons in April for trademark infringement for selling Eames, Nelson and Noguchi knock-offs. And I know Knoll sued Gordon International in 2005 but I guess they didn't win because Gordon is still selling Mi ... | |||||

| Thank you minimoma and tktoo2, and yes my friend is Ziggy, for some reason he is unaware of he got banned but all the same we are both in love with this furniture so it's a pleasure to do this. So after I replied to him, he was quite excited to add another designer he didn't own to his collection, but as we both did a little more searching and comparing, as close as they are, we believe there are a few inconsistencies between them. I'll attempt to post a few photos and let me know what you guys think? So first chair would be exactly his chair without rail o ... | |||||
| RE: Found an Eames LCW. Want to repair it, but should I? | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | cdsilva | Repair | |
| what muddies the water even more is the eames.com website gives photos and itemized breakdown of distinguishing features of the various generations of LCWs. While the text seems accurate enough, the photo they chose for the underside shows not only slotted stainless wood screws for the back 5, but slotted domed screws for the middle 2. That seems obviously wrong from everything I've read. Even though the eames.com site is not related to the Eames estate, you would think that they would still review/select photos like that carefully. That's one of the things ... | |||||

| Well, I was laughing at myself so no worries there. I knew there was a reason I normally stick with Danish. Since it was a last-minute throw-in for a very good price, I'm still happy. And the seller didn't claim it was an LCW either, just some type of Eames chair. I'm also happy I figured it out before I ordered the larger LCW oval shockmount from Special K. | |||||

| Would you have any pictures of the little ring? I recently got a Pollock executive and having trouble adjusting the height. Also tried spinning the bottom while pulling towards me and that didn't work. | |||||

| @andersen A T-shaped backrest is not a specific feature that can be assigned to a particular designer. The Koppel family didn't say anything. The Koppels were architects, and there is no serious documentation about the few furniture they designed as a sideline in dull evening hours before going to bed and having some fun. Be careful that your search for the chair doesn't turn into an obsession, the chair isn't that great either. | |||||

| @kyle-barrett I’ve reported tons of bot posts. But it turns out that, for some reason, they didn’t get any of the reports. 😖 But now that I found a way of communication, it should be possible to minimize the number of bots around. | |||||

| I have a Knoll Pollock executive chair as well. So old that the wheels are metal balls and not black plastic. The tag underneath is a bit distorted, but it's either made in 1970 or 1978. It is a little low for me. If I turn the chair upside down, and I see a rectangular bolt, secured with what is called an e-clip or e-ring. Turning the bolt with a wrench doesn't seem to do anything. I also tried spinning the chair counterclockwise while holding the base to raise the height--that didn't do a thing either. | |||||

| @lexi That HW site is great - wish we had this for more makers. I wonder if it's comprehensive as far as G-Plan goes or if there are collections missing. I didn't see anything like the OP's table or other similar ones also attributed to G-Plan. Maybe this one is another example from the mysterious Dutch or British maker that made my "Ponti" table, and the others "in the style of Teeffelen" . @wesemael did V&D sell Webe furniture or is the Teeffelen-style coffee table shown in the ad another maker's version of his table with the mosaic tiles on top ... | |||||

| @mvc There is really nothing wrong with Austrians just because they are Austrian. Aaronny has given us plenty of illogical absurd statements to criticize like the pavilion designed by the Koppels in which they didn’t use any of their furniture, therefore they didn’t design any. Or their niece who doesn’t have any Koppel furniture at home, therefore they didn’t design any. Or the Koppels didn’t design anything of importance therefore they designed nothing. But now to the point: I can probably guess at where the Hvidt attribution originates. Swanky will hav ... | |||||

| @andersen Haha, no, I'm not writing a book. I think posting on the internet is a better way for me to give away whatever my research brings to light. It's way easier, cheaper and probably finds more people. Regarding your chair: It's difficult. To my knowledge there are no old Danish folks around who are experts at recognizing obscure designs. The people who were deeply involved in the business are dead now, and if you find family members, you'll be lucky if they know anything about the design of their ancestors. The Koppel family for instance seems to have ... | |||||

Back then, none of the catalog editors thought that everything had to be exactly correct, only to serve some design enthusiasts who are racking 50 years later their brains about who designed exactly what furniture. | @lexi, Thank you. I thought so about the pie. I have my 'Blizzard of '78' stories, too. I'd share those, but my daughters' eyes would involuntarily roll ...wherever they are. In short, I didn't make it back to my home (or change clothes) for 4 days. Neither did half the refugees I was stuck with. Good thing the kindly barkeep took us in or we'd have had to spend all that time sober!

| @tktoo2 Funny, I didn't even notice those were hockey sticks. That adds a whole new depth to the work I hadn't even considered. I can see the artist now, enjoying a cold Molson, watching an Oilers/Leafs game, and looking down admiringly at his masterpiece. My guess is that he passed on recently and one of his ungrateful and taste-deficient offspring donated it . @johnjohn Thank you for your opinion but I respectfully disagree about the base. I'm not saying Fritz Hansen made it but I seriously doubt it's the work of some backwoods "hobbyist". | |||||

I was unable to too see the roof when I toured the home as it is mostly a flat roof with one section that has a very slightly sloped roof. I have waited and waited to buy a home because I never liked any of the more mid-century ones I have seen and even then they very rarely come up for sale in this area. There just aren't many of them around the Lexington area. The very few mid-century homes I have seen available in the ...
