| Gack! That thing's hideous! There just must be a better way than that fugly thing! As for knives, I've got Wustofs that are 20+yrs old at this point and they are holding up incredibly well considering the daily use/abuse they get. But I gotta admit Global knives are indeed "bitchin" | |||||

| I think the weave looks better on the "right" side of the fabric because, as Pegboard said, the color is more solid. I had the yellow/black colorway once and debated about the same thing. That kind of thing bugs me. Plus, all the other stuff about it not having a protective coating on the back and maybe not wearing as well. And calling Maharam for more info. | |||||

| Hello all, I just aquired this Electorhome Circa 701 and thought I would show it off. It's fully functional, in fact I'm listening to a Beatles record as I write this post. Has anyone else owned one of these beauties? The not sure of the type of wood it is constructed of, I came across an old add for these and it says they were either made of walnut or oiled teak. | |||||

| . Going with the art analogy, there are always plenty of painters who make better "paint jobs" -- better or more refined versions of the work of artists who actually invented the language. But does the ability to craft a "better" paint job than the original artist did, IN ITSELF make them more authentic? No. I agree that authenticity is a different thing than well made-ness. Authenticity is about vision and invention as much as mere craft. Craftmanship is a highly valued thing, and a worthy goal indeed, but its not the only thing when one is measuring authenticity. Why should the standard by which authenticity is measured be any different in furniture design than it is in painting? | |||||

| red chair fade away It's actually kinda of nice to see. I know if I saw a chair like that in an ad and didn't know what it was or where to find one, it would frustrate the hell out of me and probably become a lifelong quest to identify and locate the damned thing. Actually, this kind of thing does happen to me, quite often. | |||||
| Repairing a Eames Soft Pad EA 434 | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | Selig | General discussion | |
| I've dug around the forum for awhile looking for my answer with no direct luck. I have a rather worn Soft Pad and I was curious if it can actually be reupholstered. Basically I only need the pads to be done, but I wouldn't mind the whole thing being redone wherever there is leather. Only thing I found was that early year ones cannot be done at all via HM, but not much else. I'm planning to send it over to Hume if it can be done. | |||||

| I hope to start improving my exterior within a few weeks. Besides painting my house one thing I want to do is improve the landscape. The first thing I want to do is to remove 3 crepe myrtles. One of them has gotten to be rather tall. Should I cut them low to the ground and pull them out with a truck? Any advice? I want to get to this right away. Perhaps I have even mentioned it before, it has been a project long overdue. | |||||

| . Generally magazines are not really about the thing, they are about marketing to the people that wish to identify with the thing. This means that periodicals these days kinda have limited content value by definition. I suppose that this answer isn't much use to you, but that's the point, I guess. shop buy consume dispose YOU ARE A TARGET MARKET. | |||||

I decided to make my role model the latter as opposed to the former. There is no such thing as too much or enough. LRF, Congratulations on collecting an attractive wife. | Not so much arguing... | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | formequalsfunction | General discussion | |
| Not so much arguing... that the thing is uncomfortable. Its all subjective anyway. It is a nice-looking thing, so to me it is a art/design hybrid of some sorts (as most things should be...), kind of like that Newson bike. That makes it worthy of not reproducing. Would you reproduce a great work of art just because its expensive and you want one? Its called a poster, and I really don't like posters. That's just me... | |||||

| lucifersum he Eames have a very confortable home for a round 15 million... no wonder they don't want to do a damn thing with it to fix it up , they proberly hope that us nosey people will go a way and they can quiety sell the place for 20 million to some developer who will build 6 homes and come out very nicely . looks like this was my opion... If they never fixed the place up what would you thing the owners were doing with it???? ... How come it took so long the Eames have been gone for 30 years and 20 years How come they did not fix the place up already ? They know many people have had a interest in Charles and Ray Eames for many years . This thing with the National Historical trust just happened. | |||||

| I've got this friend who's looking for well-designed cat furniture | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | william-holden-... | General discussion | |
| ... okay, it's ME. I can hardly believe it myself. I didn't even have a scratching post for the last cat, since I find cat paraphernalia such an eyesore, especially in a small apartment setting. I guess I'm becoming an old softy because I broke my rule for Julius and got him an inoffensive sisal scratching post about a year ago. He REALLY loves it-- especially balancing atop it, tumbling off whilst upside down, all sorts of crazy cat gymnastics. He has such fun on the thing, I'd almost kinda like to give him a bigger gym-- like those hideous "cat towers" that the lucky cats of non-design addict owners get to play on. Except, then I come to my senses and realize there's NO WAY I could live with such a thing. Is there an attractive cat gymnasium? I'm convinced that such a thing COULD exist... even if I have to build it myself. | |||||
| It looks like a pretty well | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | objectworship | General discussion | |
| It looks like a pretty well made thing, I'd guess from the 70s but it could be much more recent, it's tough to tell via photo. The design looks like a derivative chopping-up of Kjaerholm/Mies van der Rohe styles, with gracelessly joined parts, and companies that do this sort of thing tend to be face/nameless in my experience. | |||||
