| Me too, azure... I went... | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | whitespike | General discussion | |
| Me too, azure... I went... Me too, azure... I went in this antique store twice while a 3 tier Panton Fun Lamp was on sale from $300 down to $50! This was when I was first interested in modern furniture. I was looking for Eames shells basically and knew nothing about lighting yet. When I got home from the second trip I noticed the same lamp in my 'retro modern' book. When I called someone had just bought it. I am pretty damn sure it was a real Panton ... and those lamps are worth a pretty penny! Also - I regret all the crappy second hand 50s furniture I bought when I was younger. I spent what was to me a lot of money on it. Later when I learned more about design and aquired a taste for well designed items I couldn't give the stuff away. Then - My first 'designer items' was a set of 6 bertoia dining chairs. They had been repainted. I thought I could get them repowdercoated or something only to find out that it was rilsan dipped. I ended up selling all 6 for $350. I did speak to Val Bertoia in the process of researching them though... | |||||

| Hi, I bought this nice acrylic lounge chair from a lady in Berlin. She said that she had aquired it in 1974... Although I am quite familiar with 70ies design I have never seen this chair. Anyone any idea about it? Thanks a lot, best regards from Austria michael | |||||

| Wow! Very impressive, Pegboard! It's not my thing at all though 1) I love the big guy in the living room and 2) I got to go to Trader Vic's for my 13th birthday with two friends and my dad and it was breathtakingly amazing, plus the fried won tons were the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted, so I guess I get it on some level! | |||||

| Pillows the first thing I noticed too. Shame, they are hiding a very beautiful couch. Plus they make sitting awkward and uncomfortable. My dear mum does the same thing. When I go to visit I throw them to the ground in protest but it doesn't ever faze her. | |||||
| These are definitely vintage | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| These are definitely vintage I'm pretty sure these are at least 20 years old. I can just tell by the way the wood is worn, and the finish used. I've searched Thonet's website and havent found any images of them. I've also done a few google searches to no avail. Its more of a curiousity thing than a resale thing. | |||||
| Dear all, after a pretty | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Ernest Rams | General discussion | |
| Dear all, after a pretty disappointing Saturday - a couple of items taken in front of me at the local fleamarkt just because I was not there early as usual- I was thinking to start a new thread entitled "the last thing that you did not acquire". But probably it won't be as much fun as the "last thing that you acquired". Best regards Ernest. | |||||
| I like that idea. | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | mgee76 | General discussion | |
| I like that idea. I think I might suggest it to a couple of the local companies. I can understand why people would get burned out or turned off by this kinda thing. It's really sorta depressed me since it happened. Any ideas on the desk? Some random Danish thing? I don't see too many with legs like that. | |||||

| DO IT ! I'm no expert with computers but believe me when I say that I held back for years before switching to a Mac and low and behold, it was the best thing I ever did. Very straight forward changeover...don't hesitate . Iv'e not seen the thing of beauty you describe though I have no doubt whatsoever that it will look amazing. My wee i-book is still so cute I want ta' hug it ! | |||||

| Well, it seemed to me that... Well, it seemed to me that Finch were actually quoting an actual interview with Charles Eames, so maybe he wasn't so happy after all...? It is one thing to promote the chair you have just designed, and another thing to think back at it, reflect on your earlier work and realize it was maybe not the best design of your career... | |||||
| 1957 Chevy fins | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| 1957 Chevy fins somehow that's the first thing that popped into my head when I clicked on the link. I'm with 'spiky' (sorry whitespike, couldn't resist) It's a little OTT for me. I still want my Citterio 'Harry' the slanted corved back on that thing is an architectural gorgeousness. | |||||
| Oh I've done that for years | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Robert Leach | General discussion | |
| Oh I've done that for years - the colour coordinated thing.. But here in the UK Penguin books are made like that- so it's not such an odd thing to do. Books of different eras and genres have different coloured spines, but essentially the same format. Obviously I don't do that for reference books, but might be guilty of putting them in sizes...and colour oftens helps me recognise a certain book. Surely alphabeticizing could be described as equally anally retentive? ..and why is anally retentive such a bad thing when it comes to something like books which naturally need order?- the antithesis would be to throw them in heap in the middle of the room.. | |||||

| Rislan | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Ben Joyner | General discussion | |
| Rislan Hi Stew, It's usually a Rislan coating on the Bertoia chairs, I don't think it is the kind of thing you could touch up. Easiest thing would be to have it sandblasted back to the metal and then powdercoated. | |||||

| I would not attribute... I would not attribute Midcentury pieces with the 'Jetsons' look. I would say that is more of a 60s thing rather than a 40s-50s thing. There are a few exceptions: Jacobsen Egg, Saarinen Tulip.... | |||||
