| I was considering such a job... I was considering such a job and wondered what it would take to do the prep work. Interesting that you didn't have the rock installed directly against the old wall. Are you removing the old wall then, or maybe leaving an air gap with the original interior wall? thanks | |||||

| Thanks for the input, Barry -... Thanks for the input, Barry -- I actually accept and even appreciate the aged mojo that these chairs develop, sags & all. I almost think they look a little too slick when first new. That said, I'm a little worried that that it's a little early in the life of this chair for it to be wrinkling like it is. I don't fancy a Keith Richards effect! If it steadies out and stays about like it is, no worries. didn't know if my upholsterer was remiss in some finishing detail, or if I'd been remiss in some user maintenance. | |||||

| ... in it, it make a creaking sound, and it looked a bit off kilter, so i had a friend in town who does mid-century modern upholstery (Remnants in Minneapolis) take a look at it, and he agreed that there was something wrong with the frame. He said that the fabric would not be savable, if he opened up the chair, so, considering that it was not original, and I didn't much care for the color, I said go ahead. I'm telling you all this, because when Saarinen designed this first project for Knoll, he had wanted to use fiberglass, but it wasn't available yet at this t ... | |||||

| herman's acting like this? it's really too bad h.m. didn't let you know in advance the details of their intended fix. it's likely you and your client may have chosen to do a bit more research in hopes of finding a source for a more desirable, period-sensitive refurbish. i'm really quite surprised with h.m., particularly from a p.r. standpoint. is this considered standard fare for their service? | |||||

| ... from raw materials. This is my speciality, this is also why I like fine design. I also like the goofy stuff, I am not full of myself, or look at my furniture as status. The low brow division tries to copy the high brow stuff and do it cheaper. Its the China-knockoff-furniture-syndrome, it didn't start in 1995. It was going on in the 50s. All the great furniture was copied by some cheap-o stroke. So when the finished piece is completely covered, and all nasty production hiccups have been hidden, you must be on your toes. You look at what is there, and what ... | |||||

| The best concept When I was on summer holidays (jan 2007) I took the easy to read it, since then I wanted to comment many things but I didn,t yet. We all admire most of your comments and thoughts. But the one that impressed me most, The one that was absolutely new was: The purpose is not to deny the first designer any of the benefits derived from having made the original, but to open the possibility for others to make a contribution in the areas of their expertise. If I have to choose one sentence, if I have to choose one concept, if a have to choose only o ... | |||||

The smaller lots cost more but already had power, cable and water. Water's a big deal in NM and many folks only want to buy land with a well already in place. The larger parcels, which were at he back of an enormous horse ranch had incredibly stunning views of the Ortiz and Sangre de Christo Mountains. I saw Pronghorned antelope racing across the arroyo below us and jack rabbits as big as a terrier sprinting across th ... | |||||

| LRF, -if I'm not mistaken HM... LRF, -if I'm not mistaken HM kept the black mounts on the fiberglass chairs all the way until the end of production in the early eighties? I think it was only the upholstered ones that didn't use them after mid 60's? Anyway, I wouldn't change an original design as long as replacement parts are available. You are right the Zenith's are the ones really worth preserving, but I have a really nice HM armshell covered in a Girard Harlequin textile. It is not Zenith, but I wouldn't change a thing on it... I also have a rocker in the ... | |||||

| I just read a piece on Rem Koolhaas (New Yorker, 3/05) which says he doesn't draw. He chooses among options (often sketch models) prepared by his staff. He's 62 now. He was going to be a film maker. . . I believe HH Richardson was another architect who didn't draw -- other than some wonderful little preliminary blotches. As long as you can direct others to the desired result, it's all the same, I guess. Koen, what would you say of a ceramist who couldn't throw on the wheel ? (I am one who agrees completely with your view, by the way; the ideas are all a ... | |||||
