| Considering I live in... Considering I live in Florida and this was shipped from NYC I didn't really have much of a chance or choice to be able to sit in it before buying. Even stores with a licensed HM are quite far away from where I live. With that being said the chair is comfortable but I believe with a little effort it could be improved. I'm quite satisfied with the chair even if no modifications are made since I made an informed purchase based on many positive reviews. I'm no sucker. | |||||
| Nice stuff, but | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| Nice stuff, but M_Andersen, I would have choked and then had a heart attack if I'd seen that vase for $8! I am haunted by a vase that I saw at an auction once. I didn't like it at first glance but it quickly grew on me. I started to think maybe it was one of the Danish art potters' work but there was no way to research it there. Then I bid on and got a beautiful rosewood table with six Kai Kristiansen chairs and took the first load home in my car. When I got back, the vase had been sold. I can still see it sitting in front of the buyer where he had park ... | |||||
| Thanks Jim! | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | bj | General discussion | |
| Thanks Jim! Are those yours? You don't see these much here in Belgium. Tomado was well sold here, but Pilastro didn't it seems. So I was very excited when this came for sale on a secondhand site. Seller didn't know what he was offering, price was low, but there was much interest, willing to go far above asking price. I mailed and said it was difficult discussing prices but placed the highest amount I was willing to give (a third/fourth of the value I see at shops or dealers) and I got it! When arriving at the home of the seller, it was a fifties modern bunga ... | |||||
| McCobb in the Alley | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | loft24 | General discussion | |
| McCobb in the Alley We have drunks and rubbish too... and a toxic paint factory, but the flea market provides some weekly relief and reveals some nice stuff. It's an up-and-coming arts/ residential district. It wasn't $50 but we didn't try to haggle with the dealer's price either. The piece was unmarked so the tag said "cool mid-century credenza". | |||||
| What | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | Robert Leach | General discussion | |
| What exactly is wrong with the interface? I use several fora and every one of them has newcomers unable to post photos; it's a common internet phenomena. I, for one, like the no bells and whistles look and feel of the forum; the website, as a whole, I really like. Which is why I visit. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here. | |||||

| There no BR-51 or Br-50... There no BR-51 or Br-50 stamp like most authentic Knoll tulip chairs. Knoll used Alcoa for aluminum, but didn't they provide aluminum for everybody? Anyone else had any insight to the authenticity of this chair? Thank you. | |||||

| i don't think i was being rude i was merely commenting on what you presented. just because i made a judgement call regarding the fairness of the trade does not mean that i am being rude. did i call you name or make any personal attack or innuendo about you? i don't think so. if you didn't mean as a straight swap, then perhaps you should have stated your proposal clearer? people can only comprehend and react to what you wrote, they can't read your mind. fb | |||||

| Swan chair re-upholstery | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | Juleshsmith | General discussion | |
| Swan chair re-upholstery Hi nmariette. It was a huge headache (and expense)getting the Swan re-upholstered. I actually took it back twice to the original upholsterer and even then they didn't do a great job. Ended up taking it to a second upholsterer (Martel Upholstery Richmond) who managed to fix most of the mistakes thankfully. So, I really really recommend you make sure the upholsterer has experience re-upholstering Swan chairs because they are quite difficult. Martel specialise in mid-century furniture (unlike the first upholsterer). Can't recommended an ... | |||||

| ... to identify objects are welcome as long as the object is believed to be modern, post-modern or contemporary (no antiques). You may ask for help identifying an object?s designer, producer, period, style, material etc. ? but not its commercial value. This forum is not a free valuation service. Doesn't mind anyway, you didn't know it, and most people here are very kind. You broke a rule, but we could create a new rule, perhaps, if you want: This is not "a free valuation service" but if you are needing advice and ask for the generosity of the members asking for ... | |||||
| Some good ideas here, thanks... | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | OMM | General discussion | |
| Some good ideas here, thanks... Some good ideas here, thanks all. It was definitely painted to try and maintain some look of wood. There wasn't a ton of detailing to mimic the grain, but some. There was some kind of glazing on top of the paint as well. It didn't look terrible, but it certainly didn't look like it should. As for flipping it over, the issue there is that the DUX stamp is pressed into a portion of the veneer right in the middle of the surface. Sure it's better than the sanded through bit, but still not ideal. I was curious if it could be re-ven ... | |||||
