| I don't think that seat cushion | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| I don't think that seat cushion is original. I do think the chair looks authentic. I would bet that someone long ago didn't like the feel of the thinner foam cushion that was original to the chair, so they had the chair reupholstered and asked the upholsterer to stick a sprung cushion in there. He went with the pre-formed cushions that are standard for a conventional armchair but that are much too deep for a Papa Bear, hence that overhang in front. Alternative version: upholstery fabric is original and somehow the guy who made the sprung cushion got fabri ... | |||||

| Hi Onno All respect for your knowledge or power of determination. Only, I didn't state the chairs were Dokka, but Doka. I also said this firm (following the book) is swedish, not norwegian. I know Dokka from Norway and I am very aware this isn't a design by them. | |||||

| The base's color is "putty", ... The base's color is "putty", and is original. re: the top - I'd put some rejuvenating oil on it and just see what happens! I picked up a table almost exactly like this (putty base, walnut top in need of some love) a couple years ago off craigslist ($60!) and used a magic eraser to clean up the base. I didn't find that soap and water did much, but the magic eraser worked a charm. | |||||

| Interior Systems Wall Unit Adam C--and after 1 more year...I found a brochure on the Interior Systems wall units. I didn't know they had a distribution center in Tacoma, but that explains why they're so prevalent on the Seattle/Tacoma craigslist. They're simple, flexible and crazy-inexpensive. Email me at john-doe [at] outlook [dot] com if you'd like a copy of the brochure--happy to share. --john | |||||
| Nope. | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | cdsilva | General discussion | |
| Nope. The Wright Heggen tulip bubble is real and has reached "irrational exuberance" levels. I wonder if there are two Russian and/or Middle Eastern oil billionaire collectors that are having a personal duel during these Wright Auctions. Leslie Hindeman tried to cash in with a similar lot a few weeks ago and didn't come close to the Wright magic. | |||||

| Yes Scandesign, I didn't know the table you posted some messages ago. Looks very refined, almost over the top. Who produced these? Was he as well a designer as a producer? Did he have his own company? | |||||

| ... for their marketing materials. If those are pictures of your chair, I'd be pleased if I were you. Yeah, you didn't get much of the heavy brown/black streaking, but it's still a pleasing grain figure compared to some I've seen. I don't think the contrast will change much over time. More likely that the reddish tone will turn towards brown. A few images of different samples at the link. | cadodream: what caused those stains? I have had exceptionally good success restoring veneer tops by scraping with a razor blade. If it is something that didn't cause discoloration all the way through the veneer, it can be fixed with razor scraping. Using a razor blade requires very strong fingers and extreme attention to detail, and a lot of time, but other than that there isn't anything overly complicated. The key is that the razor blade takes off a very small amount of wood with each pass. You'd probably have to scrape the same spot 500 times to get thr ... | |||||

| Interesting So this was a water based pigment. And in the store they must have put it directly onto the wood, and it looked good. But you then mixed it with shellac to apply it, and it didn't look good. It could also be an interaction with shellac. | |||||

| Thanks! | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Thanks! I don't have the piece in my possession yet, and I didn't inspected the frame closely upon my visit with the previous owner to know if there is a stamped number on it. I was puzzled however by the black rubber straps and was hoping somebody could help me with that if that might proof to be significant. I also have to have to point out that the frame is not chrome but made of steel which is painted black and has been worn off due to it's many years of use. | |||||

| Bench in the US Yes, it was bought in the US. I didn't pay a whole lot for it. From what I remember, possibly $50 - $75? It's very sturdy and has some metal on the underside. I really appreciate all the responses, so far! If anyone has anything to add, please do. | |||||
