| Who designed this chair what is its country of origin? | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Maryanne Scott | General discussion | |
| Hello I am thinking about purchasing a set of these chairs ,and having them redone. However; before I waste my time ,and money on them could someone here help ID them. They have a metal tag on them which says BEKA ,and has what looks like three kittens on it.I would at least like to get an idea of where they may originate from. Also; if possible the designer ,and maybe a year range.I didn't have a camera with me when I viewed them ,so the only picture I have is off the dealers website. Thank-you | |||||
| The Embody Chair Available? | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Carl A. | General discussion | |
| I saw the ad at the top of the homepage promoting Herman Miller's Embody chair at Smart Furniture. I didn't think this was out yet. Is this just a promotion of their exclusive design tool or are they actively for sale now!?! The link is www.smartfurniture.com/embody in case that ad goes away soon. http://www.smartfurniture.com/embody | |||||
| Lou Hodges Table? | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | l1flafly | General discussion | |
| So a while back I picked up this table at a swap meet here in San diego, unfortunately it didn't fit with what I had in my living room as nice as I originally thought so it went to the garage. After shifting stuff around I pretty much forgot about it. Recently I was looking through a Lama auctions catalog a friend let me borrow for the Max Palevsky auction and I noticed a desk by Lou Hodges that looked pretty similar to my table. You can see it in the link below on page 215 which is in the second to last dot. My question is since there are no markings on my ... | |||||
| George Nelson for Arbuck - table and chair sets | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | TinyArmada | General discussion | |
| ... are their pieces? etc... I know the chairs below are original to the table, but I've found other chairs sold with this table attributed to Nelson too. (the other chairs I saw paired with this table, at Rago auctions, were "c" shaped, curved chairs. I didn't think they matched as well with the table as the ones pictured below.) I found a post on here mentioning Arbuck (I think in relation to McCobb designs) and one of the posters on here (Straylight) mentioned he had some original materials on the Arbuck production lines - so I'm hoping he will see this an ... | |||||
| Love DESIGN ?How can I be BETTER? | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | Waver | General discussion | |
| ... and the design quality and so on all had the very big progress. I thought that I must first love design if I choose design. Based on this, I need to look and think about something to start work. See for the original capital base and thought for takeing exercise to creative thinking as the soul and practice hand-painted well to do tools. I quite agree with Carl Liu?s ?jumping thinking of the outbreak of fresh ideas?. From school to now, I didn't buy a book as documents. I think model essay will limit thinking, so I won't see it before writing a compositi ... | |||||
| Looking for a glass top desk | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | ~L | General discussion | |
| The desk I wanted was by IKEA, the GALANT. Went to purchase it and found the glass was white and not clear. The other options they had in glass just didn't do it. I am staging a room and need a clear glass top so it doesn't make the room look small. I want the oval shape because it makes it easier to move in the room. I did check prices on purchasing the glass separate and making the table myself, but shipping was very high. I looked at CB2, West Elm and Bo Concept, but they have nothing. I really don't want to spend a lot even though I will probably ke ... | |||||
| Replacing Generic Shockmount | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| ... the shock mounts but my question is where do I get new ones? The ones in the front seem to be standard Eames size but the ones in the back are an inch tall and have a slant to them. Any thoughts as to where I could pick them up? If I can at least save the awkward sized ones and just replaced the Eames sized ones what do you think the best way to get all of the epoxy and what seems like silicone off without damaging the rubber? I wish I took pictures before I dropped them off at my dads but I didn't think about it till now. Also these are worth it to rest ... | |||||

I assured her that it was marked, it just didn't show up in the photo and that the exposed screws were common in chairs found in schools. She then emails me that I didn't mention in the auction it was a childs chair. Thats right, because it isnt. Then she asks me "whats it worth?". I say something to the extent of "??!?!?". She then asks me "Is it the same chair thats on Etsy?". Again, I say "????!?". She finally asks to be ... | |||||

| ... 6061 aluminum plate, maple stock with 24 Jorgenson press screws, and three 8' long by 4 inch I-beams. I never used the press or the veneer and all sits in my garage. Why i didn't use the press is a long story so, I won't get into that. Now, I want to see what is the true worth of this veneer and even whether or not there is a market for it. Every veneer site that I went to doesn't seem to have this veneer. I am just wondering if this tree is extinct? Can anyone give me some direction? What would you do with the veneer if you were I? What about the pre ... | |||||
| How to not ruin Eames Original Rocker Runners | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | TinyArmada | General discussion | |
| We have a rope edge RAR and there is almost no absurdity that will not be entertained to ensure it never gets ruined or fucked up. The runners on our chair were worn down and damaged. Rather than try a repair myself, I went to a Master Craftsman. He did research and informed me that how Eames originally produced their runners from Birch was to take blocks of birch, glue them together and from a giant form they would cut out as many runners needed and finish from that point. Thus, some would have a almost invisible line running back to front on the runners (t ... | |||||

| ... In my feeble defense, I didn't know it was a Mccobb, it was badly painted and not in perfect condition. Regardless, I know I committed the sin of destroying an iconic piece of mid-century design. I didn't have room in the moving van, so I set it on the side of the road for the City to haul to the landfill. I knew not what I did... But I do now, and I suffer. | |||||

| Where to start looking for the Rocking Chair that got away? ID Help Please | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | islandmodern | Identification | |
| I saw this beautiful rocker on eBay, but due to [don't get me started] circumstances beyond my control, I didn't get it.... Anyway, I'm not over it yet and had already planned a future for us both, and imagined how we'd grow old togther, so I'd really like to track it down and find another - except of course (as usual) I don't know who made it. I thought it looked highly reminscent of Guy Rogers (am in the UK at the moment) but I've never seen a rocking chair by him. And I also thought that it was a bit Juhl(ish) but the arm rests are different to the chair ... | |||||
| MCM televison stand | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | flyingpatricio | General discussion | |
| In my search for MCM pieces for our home I've been at a loss when it comes to finding an appropriate stand for our television. You see, we have a 27" SONY Trinitron and I refuse to replace it until it dies seeing as it's only 8 years old and cost me $800 when new. I imagine the reason for such a hard find is they didn't have t.v.s that big then so no need for an appropriate stand. My search may be over. I picked up this 1966/67 Magnavox Micromatic record player console at an Estate Sale this past weekend for $15. It's 36"(w)x17.5"(d)x24"(t) and made of walnu ... | |||||
