| suggestions hi, I never tried that chair. My suggestion: if you want 2 small chairs I propose zig-zag by rietveld or diamond chair by Bertoia in case you prefer something bigger. | |||||

| Hi there Launchpadlondon ... First of all,... I want to make clear I am not an expert. I pointed out some significant differences in diamond chairs that I have spotted by gathering as much information as I could, and -maybe even more important- examining the real chairs very carfully. Please do not conclude that the chairs are 100% certain genuine Knoll diamond chairs based only on the things I posted here. It is possible that there are fake ones out there that have less obvious differences with the real ones and that I haven 't seen yet. To be really sure, ... | |||||

| ... Le Corbusier. Through his life he's had everything worth mentioning so it was natural for me to start purchasing furniture of similar quality and mix it with IKEA stuff since I was so young and had/still have limited funds. At this point I have less things that I've ever had before. My taste changed as I became completely addicted to modern design and read every book I could get my hands off. So I've sold a lot of what I had. To mention a few, I've had George Nelson table/stools, countless Eames chairs (incl. a few rare Robin's Egg blue side chairs), Verner ... | |||||

| What were results? Chairtom, Did you re-foam your chair pad and, if so, how did it turn out? I am also replacing the foam on a vintage diamond chair and have told the upholsterer to use HR-70. Am hoping for the best. Has anyone else tried re-foaming a vintage Bertoia diamond chair pad and with what results? Birdfan | |||||

| I did find a pair of black... I did find a pair of black diamond chairs with yellow vinyl pads in great shape last year. I don't have them yet. It was in the old library I used to go into as a kid. I visited my old town and remember mod looking stuff being in there but wasnt sure. They said after the new library is built they will give them to me. That will be in 5 years! I'm not holding my breath. They also have 2 sofas which appear to be Knoll. Unfortunately they recovered them and I would have to get them and do some research to identify them. You'll neve ... | |||||
| An Idea | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| An Idea Because both my bird and small diamond chairs are covered in wool, I cover them in the summer with a cotton blanket which drapes pleasantly and covers the upholster fabric. A queen blanket folded in half covers the bird chair nicely. The bones of the chair show through which I find an interesting variation on the form. Please do not tell anyone in the club I made this suggestion as I may be voted out! | |||||
| Thanks, Donsof | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Thanks, Donsof Ii appreciate the info on the Small diamond foam replacement. I had always thought that the foam was not just sheet goods, being more like a cast form with lots of thick and thin here and there. Will give it a try. I love the 60's black/blue houndstooth fabric and want to keep it. Also, thanks for the great bird chair photos as I have some older and newer Bertoias and appreciate learning about the evolution. I know that the covers of my 60's diamond is different from newer ones. | |||||

| It has been copied This chair has been copied, and even the copies of the small diamond look awkward, so I know the copied bird is obvious. There are variations in the Knoll design. Originally they had a thinner wire, and later on Knoll thickened the wire. The perimeter wire has changed over the years, and the first version basket mount was a round rod with flats formed on it. They added a rear brace to firm up the headrests, and define the headrest shape. These chairs are hard to copy, and have unique diffs, in the covers, the finishes, the wire, the bracke ... | |||||

| If you are serious about it.... buy a small table band saw, with a 3/8 standard band saw. The disk that surrounds the hole where the saw goes through the table should be replaced with a disk that leaves less space (the one that comes with the machine is too universal and accomodates larger band saws) It usely is made out of aluminum but a small plywood disk will do. The acrylic needs more support so the disk has to get as close as possible to the and saw. I have tried diamond wire and other finer tools on the band saw but they create too much friction and in ... | |||||

| Also - if you can't tell the... Also - if you can't tell the difference between yours and a Knoll diamond chair it is almost without a doubt Knoll. I have never seen a faithful copy that is vintage. I have seen a few copies that are grossly different and also one that has almost the same shape but is made in fiberglass (not the side, which they did do in fiberglass, but the diamond). | |||||

| ... store. granted some are upholstered in blue and some in a light purple fabric, but I plan to recover them. My uncle's company went down in houston and hooked up my older brother and I with two brno tubulars for 40 dollars each, all in really good shape with fabric upholstery. my older brother found a harry bertoia diamond chair - the larger one (diamond lounge?) in chrome for 15 dollars. The only bad thing about it was whoever owned it spray painted the orange fabric cover black! thankfully they did not damage the actual chair. | |||||

| thanks, that was aq good... thanks, that was aq good idea. I'll have to get a picture of it. I would be surprised if it's danish. I would put it more in a mont, parzinger, frankl category. It is light wood with geometrically (diamond-shaped design with brass studs in the center of each) carved sliding doors. It stands on about 16" thin brass legs that look very french. Can you think of any c-h's that would match this look? http://shashaplecas@yahoo.com | |||||

'We were now making everything but kitchen furniture,' De Pree says, 'but I still don't know how we were paying for it. We were an undercapitalized company.'
