| Yes, but... ...if you just start winding the cord around the front rail until you reach a point even with the end of the back rail and then go from there, you end up with one strand at a different angle in front, destroying the clean lines of that perfect triangle of blank space. It's not that noticeable unless you're looking at the seat edge from a lower angle, like when you are sitting across from it. But the original weaving didn't have that stray strand and I couldn't leave it that way so I did a separate wrap of the rail and tacked the ends in place. ... | |||||

| Hi Stephen.... Being born in the same year, I have some inevitable complicity with Ikea... So my point of view is less black and white. Let me first say what I disagree with. I disagree with dear Patrick's statement of "plagiarism of Scandinavian cultural heritage" The reason why I disagree is that plagiarism of Scandinavian cultural heritage is synonimous with respect of scandinavian tradition. The difference between heritage and tradition is that heritage is past aquired goods, values and knowledge. Tradition is that part of our heritage that we believe is ... | |||||
| Attaching springs to frame-Danish lounge chair | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Vintage Rod | General discussion | |
| Hoping someone might shed some light on how this was done. The pics show some kind of canvas-like straps that went between the wood frame and the end of the spring. The spring is not long enough to reach all the way across the frame, so whatever strap was there had to extend a couple inches, or so. What's left of the straps is too brittle to even know what they are made of. Would love to see a pic or diagram of the correct setup. Thanks so much. | |||||

| Pedestal description - cont (It would be nice if this tool allowed the import of graphics. I would provide a diagram.) The top of the pedestal has no flair just the square (about 6 inches) formed by the four pieces that make up the pedestal. The bottom of each piece is a modified L with the toe curved back (more of an oval than a quarter circle). The toes extend aobut 22 or 24 inches leaving lots of leg room under the table so people sitting do not have to contend with pedestal. The width is sufficient that the table is very stable even with the extension ... | |||||
| Knoll specifications...... | 1 Relevance | 22 years ago | AC04 | General discussion | |
| Knoll specifications...... Knoll have a PDF on their website that you can download and this features the spec. for the marble and laminate edges of the Saarinen tables. You will get the thickness and the diagram would allow you to take an approximate swipe at the profile. As the post above says, it is an Arkana base, so an accurate 'Knoll' top should not be too important. I'm not sure what the cost of a bespoke marble top would be, once you start to get picky over the profile, that added to the £150 you paid for the table, you might as well have got a Knoll ... | |||||

| P. J. Yeah, he tried out a number of things -- his compound (campus?) in Connecticut is like a sampler. . .for a take on the Harvard Graduate School of Design architects, try "The Decorated diagram" (Klaus Herdeg; MIT, 1985). He finds roughly comparable pairs of projects, one by a Harvard-trained architect and the other, not; his point is to object to the methods and principles espoused by Walter Gropius between 1942 and 1950: Philip Johnson, I. M. Pei, John Johanson, Edward Larrabee Barnes, Victor Lundy, Ulrich Franzen and (gulp) Paul Rudolph being his ex ... | |||||

| ... Based of Modern Consciences diagram I was able to look at the back rest shock mounts and screws to get an idea of models. So my question is simple would anyone be able to tell from the base or wood? I ask this because these chairs are notorious for loosing feet and having hardware changed frequently. My assumption is that this specific chair is 1st gen herman miller. Its clearly not an Evans chair and the screws appear different on other chairs 2nd and 3rd gen LCMs.Also what dates where the first Herman Miller Gen 1s produced? If anyone knows Id greatly appr ... | |||||

I opened the bow. Inside was a gleaming stainless-steel set of old mechanical drawing instruments: dividers, compasses, extension arms for the compasses, a assortment of points, lead holders, and pens that could be fitted onto dividers and compasses. All that was misssing was the T square, the triangles, and the table. Andthe in ...

| Heh-heh . . . That's sweet. Yes -- a definite affinity. One notes that the diagrammatic photo of the pair shows three rods supporting the "lamp stand," while the poster's example has four. A knock-off -- or a manufacturing change ? The slightly tinted glass looks good, no doubt. A pair of tempered 1/4" plate glass panels wouldn't be very expensive, I think. Any glass store could have them made. . . Powder coat is a nice way to go. Yes, coats of poly, sanded between coats with 150 / 180 grit, would make the wood better. Irregularities in the grain might ... | |||||

| furniture whisperer I am new to the forum and am re-cording a Y chair as we speak. I couldn't figure out how to fill in the front corners since the usual way will not work. I think the diagram provided will do the trick for me. Thanks. Regarding the 90 degree corners...make sure you are hauling with your full weight when pulling across. Have a spring clamp at the ready and clamp each time you pull across and then under. Set up your next loop, then release the clamp once you are ready to haul on the next bit. You should see the cord move a bit with your extra ... | |||||

| ... wrap around the sides of the chair seat. It will get compressed to a thin layer on the sides once the leather is pulled tightly and stapled. The easiest way to cut new leather is to use the old vinyl or fabric as a pattern, but if you have only the naked frames, obviously that won't work. Basically you cut a piece of leather that is big enough to wrap around the sides with some extra to hold while you pull it taut for stapling. You want about 3"/8cm extra on each side. Staple the leather in place with a few staples on each side, stretching it taut as you ... | |||||

I'd ditch it and find a wall-mounted shelving system that features a desk, and put it along that left wall (that the sofa in your diagram faces). Confused as to whether you intend to have a real dining table-- you mentioned a Platner table earlier, but also a bar table with stools (maybe it was a Platner coffee table you were talking about). Why a bar table, and where a bar table? I wonder if the following would work-- shelving unit with desk against left wall, L-shaped sofa, low slim Parsons dini ...

| Glad you asked -- #3 (continued) Ok, so now look at the iPod. First, it's not the universal color of all consumer electronics -- already it's different and interesting. Next, what the hell IS it? It's got that big screen, a single no-moving-parts control wheel, and (almost) no labels. It's seamless and shiny, smooth with no sharp edges. Thin, elegant. Feels good to hold in your hand, like a stone out of the river. Turn it over and it's more of the same -- perfectly finished on the back side, with no ugly consumer-electronics crap hidden back there. N ... | |||||
