| I can think of a dizzying list of appropriate colors: beige, off-white, ecru, cream, oatmeal, tan, sand, fawn, biscuit, buff, or even mushroom. Yes, I'm a fan of "boring" upholstery, particularly where there's a wood frame involved. It shows off the design nicely, doesn't compete with the wood, you'll never tire of it, and it's easy to resell. You want color? That's what throw pillows and rugs are for. | |||||

| George Nelson? Rare? | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | artsnot | General discussion | |
| I found this Howard Miller clock the other day, which looks like a George Nelson design, however I haven't been able to find any info. on it. Can anyone confirm? Does anyone know if this design is rare or not? It's currently not working, and based on the design I believe it probably had a pendulum at one point. For some reason the owner felt that it would be best to remove the back and nail it to the front of the piece (presumably to cover the hole where the missing pendulum was, although I am speculating). In any case, I would appreciate any info that you guys could provide. Is this a piece worth trying to fix? Could it be sold for parts (face and hands)? What would you designaddicts do? The first batch of pics shows how the clock was found, the second batch how I believe it should look (based on nail holes where the back appears to have been). http://www.flickr.com/photos/73487033@N07/?uploaded=6&magic_cookie=855319da2450ad07d94c16371dd73b6e | |||||

Certainly not Graceland. 🙂 I imagine i'll be holding up the tour a bit with a thousand question... Silly developed diabetes two years ago and as a result went blind and deaf and Zipper goes for all walks with her. All the Schnauzers are rescue dogs. Of course a guy like me would insist that the dogs all eat from their own Miriam Mirri, Lupita pet dish for Alessi and the cat has a Miriam Mirri, Tigrito cat bowl for Alessi. "This inadequate set of terms to describe an active life reveals only partially the still undefined nature of a designer." He felt that life was too short for such compartmentalization; by age 39 he had gone blind from diabetes, and a year later, he died. Perhaps knowing that his time was limited forced Lustig to excel in many design disciplines and pack a lifetime of e ... | |||||

| I love booze, but had to give it up 20 years ago because of near diabetes... Well, not quite. I will never surrender my Napa Cabs with a steak. Sitting around sipping wine socially bores me. Give me beer or champagne or sparkling water. Bubbles and socializing are the social Tao. I once loved great whiskies--scotch and bourbon--but haven't had any in ages. But a vodka Gibson, especially when a piano is being played--remains the only clear demarcation between civilization and decay. Frankly, it recognizes and reconciles both. A Gibson, or a Martini, if you pr ... | |||||
