Russel Wright Vs. Leslie Diamond | 2 Relevance | 13 years ago | slamfoot | General discussion
Does anyone have definitive information regarding the Russel Wright and Leslie diamond attribution to Conant Ball. There is a lot of information out there, especially on Ebay, that suggests Russel Wright did all of the vintage CB furniture. For example, does ALL of Russel Wright designed furniture for CB have his name included in the branding? My suspicion is that most of the CB listing on Ebay are NOT Russel Wright designs. Any thoughts.
Real Bertoia Diamond? | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | kittybufu | General discussion
Recently Purchased what I believe is a vintage Knoll Bertoia diamond Chair, would like to be reassured that it is the real deal from someone that knows them better. It has the Knoll sticker label on the underside of the seat and a smaller manila label stating the options on the chair and where it was to be delivered. Also I was wondering why no date on the Knoll tag or manila tag? The manila tag has a red Knoll stamp and says it was delivered to the Librarian at the Ft. Knox Army base here in Kentucky. Just curious if the chair and the base are authentic Kn ...

Authentic Bertoia Diamond Chair? | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | JJR | Identification
I have been looking for a nice vintage diamond chair for a while. This particular one is within my budget and has the white and black colour combination that i like. There's one problem though, altough the basket looks ok, the base is off (welded to the back, not to the front). Was there ever a difference in production or am i dealing with a fake? I would love to get some advice/opinions on the matter. Thanks in advance! (The bolts were replaced by the way..)
Harry Bertoia Diamond Chair Knoll Jig | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | TinyArmada | General discussion
I thought this would make an interesting post for general discussion with no other purpose than being interesting. Here is a photo of the first jig that was produced that made the frames of the famous diamond chair from Knoll, designed by Harry Bertoia. This of course was made prior to the large scale equipment that later followed.Even after 60 years, the wheel still rotates with flawless motion and I have had fun putting in wire and seeing how the frame is produced. The fact it is on a wheel gives it almost a sculptural like appearance also. It an interestin ...
Question about Rilsan coating 50s Bertoia Diamond | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
Hello everyone,I am looking for a Bertoia diamond chair in black for my living room. I have found an old Bertoia diamond dating the 50s in quite a good condition (just some normal use minor scratches in the coating). The chair has been always used inside a house, never outside.I have read that the original coating is a kind of plastic called "Rilsan". As long as the chair is 60 years old, do you know if this kind of coating, if used with care, does keep its mechanical properties after so many years?I can not see in person the chair. Could it be tha ...
Is it an original Harry Bertoia Diamond Chair by Knoll or....? | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | gpet | General discussion
Greetings to everyone! I recently bought a Harry Bertoia diamond Chair from a gallery and i am curious whether it is an original Knoll product or a knock off... i know that there are some threads describing the details distinguishing an original Knoll. For example the way the wires are attached to the frame 9on top), a knoll logo in some cases or the way the lower part is attached to the upper part, however i would highly appreciate it if anyone could take a look at the attached images and share with me his/her views on whether this chair is an original Harr ...
Bertoia diamond chair question | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | eamesfan1 | General discussion
Hi I recently got a new Knoll Bertoia large diamond chair. When it arrived from shipping the chair "rocks" when you sit on it. Of the four plastic casters, only three are on the floor - the other is about 1.5cm off the floor. Is this how the chair is supposed to be? Shouldnt all four casters be on the floor? Thanks

Hi, Just came across this strange diamond chair (in France), very similar to Bertoia's but the triangular base is very special. Two identical chairs are being sold (for quite something) as French Armchair Prototype Bertoia & Pierre Paulin Style (see link below). Any idea? http://www.metroretrofurniture.com/New_Website/64Miscellaneous7643French.html
Mystery Chairs- CB in diamond mark | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | MaryChantler | Identification
... mark. The Moller are a clear match to the 66 Chair, making them simpler to identify. These others have an actual trademark, but I can't figure out what the trademark is...the mark is a diamond on its side with a large C and capital B inside the C. The CB chairs are smaller dining room chairs and the backs are like a rectangular shape (wood is carved smooth and roundish) with the top of the back being smaller and gradually getting larger toward the seat. Pegged legs, seats look like leather or fake leather, they are like a burnt umber, an orangish-red-br ...
Is this Bertoia Diamond chair authentic | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | armccallum | General discussion
I recently bought a Bertoia diamond chair. I believe it to be authentic but really have no experience with them and I also am not sure how detailed or what tricks knockoffs might be employing. So I was hoping someone could let me know based off pictures on my flickr account if i have the real deal. Reasons i think it is authentic - There was a tag that was between the frame and the upholstery (it appears to be a sticker that no long stuck to the back of the cushion)that says distributed by Knoll. A close up of the tag is in the photo set. The back cross ba ...
Looking for detail photos of a Diamond Chair. | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | DudeDah | General discussion
I thought last week there was a lengthy discussion concerning proving the authenticity of Bertoia chairs. Kind of only skimmed the topic because I don't own any and after sitting in an uncovered side chair had pretty much written off the desire to ever OWN any. BUT...I came across a couple diamond chairs over the weekend for a great price and was SHOCKED when I sat in them uncovered...the chairs NOT ME...that they were actually NOT UNCOMFORTABLE. So, I'm looking to authenticate them when I go for a second look and likely purchase this weekend. I'd love to se ...

Bertoia Diamond chair on eBay | 2 Relevance | 16 years ago | lowercase | General discussion
Didn't want to post this before it ended in case anyone here was bidding but I was curious as to the chairs authenticity. Did Knoll actually make a gray version like the one for sale? The item description said the "rubberized coating of the metal is in a very rare color 'gray'." It sold $190 which made me angry I didn't bid on it myself regardless of whether or not it was authentic vintage! rubberized coating of the metal is in a very rare color 'gray' http://yfrog.com/57chairvj
How to authenticate a vintage Bertoia diamond chair | 2 Relevance | 16 years ago | Peter07086 | General discussion
I am buying a supposedly 20/30 yr old diamond chair from an older couple. They claim that it is authentic, but I can find no identification marks on the wire frame which has some chrome rust and damage. They do have a small seat pad with a Knoll paper tag on it. But as you know, the seat pad is easily detachable and attachable to the wire frame, so this doesn't mean anything. Is there any other way I can ID this as an original vintage Bertoia diamond? thanks!!! Responses from knowledgeable people will be much appreciated. |
